Hi I fired that steam locomotive 1882 She was a pull locomotive when our regular locomotive went to washout She was also easy to fire

Why do firemen have to have so much water in thrir boilers . Look at all that steam aroung thr cyliders

The normal reading on the gauge glass is about 3 quarter full with regulator closed All that steam you see is if a locomotive stands for a while and water has to be drained by means of cylinder cocks If that is not done it will wash lubrication away and cause grunting which will have an effect on the fire Hope you see this answer
