To my knowledge the South Coast Rail Videos channel you linked isn't an official channel of any government agency, it's just a person who goes around documenting the progress of the south coast rail project and other infrastructure improvements and rail developments in the greater area. Still a great channel and as a person from Washington State it's cool to see the investment in rail over there that I wish we had here.

We wish. The only hope here for Fall River is that causes the price of housing so high that you can get rid of the problem the city is plagued with. It is going to take 20 years or more. Who is kidding who. Who wants to live in a 100 plus year old run down 3 family apartment building. The people that live here are barley get by. Don't get me wrong there is wonderful people and business in Fall River. Hell even the Mayor couldn't find someone in his own city to create a new City logo. The rest are hanging on with public assistance or menial jobs. There just isn't anything Fall River from what have seen to call an opportunity. When the mills closed and all the wonderful Portuguese community moved on so did Fall River. It's like High School, you can't go back. Good luck and I hope I am proved wrong.

This is so Pollyanna. Here in L.A. they are starting to finish up most of the metro lines in L.A. and San Bernardino County. We are already getting many reports of crime on the rails. This line will also become a ghetto spreader. Don’t be fooled Bostonians.

Heard the project got delayed to summer of 2024. While I am excited that there will be more convenient transportation to Boston, I am admittedly some of the people who believe that this will raise our cost of living.😅 But to be fair, if this project means that I could travel to other areas for a pay raise, then it wouldn't be so bad, especially since I can't afford a car. And I haven't been to Boston in a few years, so would be nice to be able to take a ride there and explore for a day.

It’s not awesome. The rents locally have exploded because of out of state corporations buying all the rental properties and then pricing out all the locals. But you make money off this so I’m sure you love it. Money has ruined your soul. Congratulations.

Not an exclusively Southcoast problem, so irrelevant. That’s the whole modus operandi of Billionaire’s Row in NYC and little is done.
@bumblesbounce6901

@@osurpless umm this isn’t NYC so your example is irrelevant. And yes, should it not be for the proposed connection to Boston “south coast” and more specifically New Bedford wouldn’t have rents north of $1,800 for a one bedroom that just 4 years ago were rented for $900. I know the “face” of one of these shell LLCs that has purchased over 10 million in property in NB alone and they have stated publicly the only reason they bought here was due to the inevitable linkage to Boston.

Though I would prefer that this kind of thing be done by a for-profit business, its still nice to see Massachusetts getting in gear with restoring rail and service. I live in Meriden, CT and my wife and I (and even my 90 year old mom) sometimes go down to see our daughter in Milford, CT by a combo of Amtrak/CT Rail and Metro North. It beats driving and battling traffic! Thanks a lot for your informative and enthusiastic video.

Will they have weekend service? I hope they also have service every hour or even more often then that. These areas need frequent trains because these people that travel these highways have a long distance to go when traveling to work. It would only benefit them if they had frequent service in which they would have more OPTIONS to get to Boston
@mollyarmando

Yes they will definitely have a weekend service. I’m not sure how frequently they will be running. I would assume every hour similar to what they currently do for the Middleboro / Lakeville line

When you consider that many commuters now leave home at 4a.m. or sooner to avoid traffic congestion which not only leaves them with a lot of time to kill when they get to Boston but also negatively impacts their home life and sleep time- its easy to see how even a limited number of departures will beat that hands down.

So I’m going to crush all the Sunshine and Rainbows of the SCR project. I worked on it, I built the stations I know the outcome. New Bedford, Taunton and Fall River are all LOW income cities. New Bedfords average income is 29k-49k in a state that averages $86k We aren’t being lifted out of poverty. Boston is using our cities as a dump site for its low income Section 8 problems. Their homeless, their poverty, their crime is coming down those tracks. We joked that the stuff we built only had to last 5 years, just long enough for Boston to clear out the poor and increase its property value and then the stations would be closed…. The joke isn’t funny anymore. I’m sorry. We didn’t know this was the states motives. The warning sign came when the city said NB could vote on its operation and my boss told me it didn’t matter what the residence voted on it because it’s was all State and Federal money and the mayor and city council didn’t even have a say in it. We were sold a lie. It’s going to increase rents, and property taxes and you will not see a positive benefit.

The quality of this line has already been degraded by caving in to the NIMBYs in Easton, which was a straight shot for less time. The North Shore once again observed "Passover" as the Blue line extension was de-funded to build this, which is higher cost, infrequent service, for fewer riders, and a negligible influence on land use patterns, functioning mostly as satellite parking, to satisfy a metric of car trip diversion on the radial highways. House values will be slightly higher, so rah rah as far a real estate agents are concerned, but can one practically take this to the coast as a destination? or will it fail at that, like the Old Colony lines which dump passengers in a far from commerce district parking lot wasteland.

Time will tell… but what I can tell you is I’ve had many conversations with people who live in the city (particularly in the construction field) who are very excited for the train to come. They can make more money in Boston.
