The latest South Dakota Poll found that many voters in the state have changed their view of Gov. Kristi Noem following her latest book and also support some of the most consequential measures on the November ballot.

FULL BIOS OF THE PANEL
Julia Marin Hellwege is director and distinguished professor of the Allene R. Chiesman Center for Democracy and associate professor of political science at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. Her research and teaching focuses on American institutional behavior and representation in relation to gender, race and ethnicity. She is also co-editor of two books on pedagogy and the profession. Her work has been published in outlets such as American Politics Research, Legislative Studies Quarterly, The Forum and Social Science Quarterly.
Brad Coker is president and CEO of Mason-Dixon Polling and Strategic Consulting Inc., which he founded in 1983. Mason-Dixon is a nationally recognized political polling and consulting organization that provides survey research and strategic consulting services to major news media outlets, national and state public policy organizations, trade associations, public affairs and communications firms, major corporate government affairs divisions and ballot issue groups. During 41 years in business, the firm has surveyed elections, referendums and issues in all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico. It also currently conducts Spanish-language polling at the national and state level for the Telemundo Station Group. Mason-Dixon has polled in South Dakota since 1992.
Stu Whitney is an investigative reporter covering politics and government for South Dakota News Watch. His recent work has focused on election integrity, government transparency and the ballot initiative process. Whitney covered the Great Plains as a columnist and editor at the Sioux Falls Argus Leader newspaper for three decades, earning national recognition from the American Society of Newspaper Editors and the Scripps Howard Foundation. He was recently chosen as a 2024 Elections Journalism Fellow by the National Press Foundation.
Marci Burdick, chair of the South Dakota News Watch board, retired in 2018 after a 48-year career in broadcasting. She worked continuously in broadcasting since age 14, beginning with an after-school job in radio in her hometown of Rapid City, S.D. Burdick moved to TV at age 18 as a weathercaster and reporter, later rising to positions as news director, general manager and corporate officer. Burdick spent most of her career with Schurz Communications. She was news director at KYTV (Springfield, Mo., 1988-2000), president/GM at WAGT (Augusta, Ga., 2000-2002) and senior vice president of the company’s electronic division (cable, TV and radio) in 2002. During her tenure, she doubled the company’s size through acquisition, and led the $452 million sale in 2016 when the company divested its radio and TV divisions. She won numerous broadcasting awards as a reporter and news manager, including two national Edward R. Murrow Awards, the national Iris Award, the national Silver Gavel Award, a regional Emmy Award and several dozen other regional and state awards.
