In korea its kinda the opposite, you get cancelled by men for being feminist in any small way. You will lose your job, celebrities offer huge apologies for accidental slips e.g. an actor once wore a "women dont need a prince to save them" shirt and had to offer a public apology and lost a big role.

Even the same women, mothers who are teaching their sons through poor home education, feel strongly opposed to any movement on behalf of women. Nonconsensual p*rn is a huuge issue in SK. Toilet cameras, cameras in hotels, locker rooms, changing rooms etc are so common women carry tiny screwdrivers on them all the time. I have a couple of korean friends and they've told me they sweep hotels before getting undressed in the room, and avoid toilets and changing rooms in general. It's crazy. Also if you look into it the stuff companies get away with that discriminate against woman is... a lot, and some of them either lower married women's salaries or aim to get them out of the company once they get pregnant (and give them no chance to return to work afterwards).

Not to mention that who in their right mind (man or woman) would want to be with someone who doesn't respect them and expects you to just more or less be the sole person looking after children and the house. Of course some make traditional roles work but it seems like people forget that women go to work too these days. When you're tired form work, think of having to clean the house, cook for the whole family, do laundry and more often than not doing all the unseen labor of keeping up with kids appointments and the whole child rearing. Like men, women don't care that much about money, most just want someone who has empathy, respect and love, doing things 50/50 so no one has to do things completely alone. It is always easier to point out to others being the problem than just admitting that one might themselves be the reason for their own misery. Never in my life have I met someone who finds being a decent human being an unattractive trait. If a lot of women keep rejecting you or possibly even tell you that something you do or say isn't cool - it's a good point to look into the mirror and think if you actually are an asshole for some reason.

It can be argued that her "brand" has never really recovered. The idol is named Irene and the book is called “Kim Ji-young, Born in 1982”, if you're interested in finding articles about it. She was just reading a NOVEL. Also, to the best of my knowledge, it is legal and normal in SK to pay women less than you pay men and say as much, openly.

Despite the perpetrator’s own statement, police refused to label the murder a hate crime. Furious, women flocked to online feminist message boards, communities, and chat forums. This wave of digital feminism attracted women from all backgrounds, including working-class women like Minji and Youngmi, making it different from traditional Korean feminism, which was largely confined to universities, NGOs that often received government support, and other elite spaces. And, "Korea has the largest gender pay gap in the rich world, with women earning 31 percent less than men, and women still face widespread discrimination in the labor market, something the movement recognizes."

If I remember correctly, Limbus Company also had a major controversy last summer, because one of the seasonal skins for a woman in the gacha game was wearing a very formfitting wetsuit instead of a bikini, and this was construed as being feminist. This led to the artist getting fired, and the developer releasing a public apology.
@JoStro_

One of the skins released was a man in an open shirt and a choker, while another was a woman in a skintight wetsuit. But Korean incels didn't like the idea of a male character showing more skin than a female so they accused the developers of "feminist" censorship and started threatening and harassing them. Which led to the developers acceding to the incels' demands of firing a female illustrator who had nothing to do with character skins..
@dazzlingdemon4831
6 ай бұрын
as someone who saw the controversy play out live i have to add that it's a bit more complicated than that, most of it came from one of the female characters (ishmael) not wearing skin revealing clothes (instead a form-fitting wet suit) but one of the male characters (sinclair) wearing swimsuit trunks with a jacket and a choker, there had already been growing resentment from the small amount of incels in the fanbase due to a perceived favouring to the twitter audience on the company's social media. the incels accused the company of being "aligned with twitter feminists" and some going as far as showing up to the company's office and implicitly imply further harm in the conversation with the developers. it's still a bit muddled on if the artist quit on her own or if she was fired, due to the union that got involved to deal with the potential illegal firing afterwards dropping any legal action against the company after being supplied with "evidence to imply the contrary" according to them. there is also the bit about some union activists maybe leaking the artists documents and potentially violating her privacy but that is also very iffy on the details. it sucked seeing this happen live since this caused a lot of korean fans to leave the fanbase, not helped by the company's lack of proper communication with the english speaking part of the community that only exasperated the situation. limbus company is actually a really good game with a great story, it sucks that this even had to happen.

I learned a lot about misogyny in korea literally from just reading korean web comics written by women. For example, Odd Girl Out is a coming of age story about a high school girl in south korea that's very grounded in reality and touches on a lot of feminist themes. There's literally a storyline in which a guy at her school becomes obsessed with her and posts her photos on whatever the south korean version of 4chan is. And there's a lot more of just boys and men being horrible in the comic. To clarify, this is not like, a melodrama series that's super far out there, like the whole conceit of it is to be a realistic story of a girl's struggles growing up in South korea

I studied abroad in South Korea for a year. Most of my interactions were with young university students. The majority of them were all incredibly friendly and kind to me, and if anyone harbored misandrist or misogynistic thoughts, they kept it to themselves. The one cringe interaction I encountered was with an older alumni who said to me basically "You should move to Korea. Korean women make great wives." The group of younger male students laughed it off, and I didn't have the audacity to challenge him in that setting. There was a young Korean college girl present for the comment as well, and I couldn't help but worry how embarrassing or insulting it must have been to hear that said publicly. On another curious note, it surprised me to learn most Koreans aren't even K-pop fans. Western music from America and Europe is generally more popular over there, at least in the circles of people I encountered.

Confucianism has been around since before the birth of Christ and is so entrenched in east asian societies that well, let me give a more pertinent example... People online like to say that China is a low-trust society because of communism, but that ignores that China has been a low-trust society for the last 2500 years. It wasn't because of communism, it was because of Confucius. Confucian teachings instilled in the people the idea that the family is the most important thing. I swear people just use the word "high-trust" mindlessly, not actually knowing what it means. It's often a misunderstood concept that people either meme about or associate with "not having minorities". High trust societies are ones where people believe they can trust each other and their institutions due to a total intolerance for thinking outside of the societal norm which enforces hyper-conformism and collectivism. China is an extremely low-trust society because everyone is out to fuck over everyone else for short-term gain there. A key feature of low-trust socieites such as China and China-like societies (HK and Taiwan) is how much emphasis there is on loyalty to the family over anything else. And the more you're loyal to your family, the less adverse you are towards fucking over strangers if it helps your family. China has been this way since before the birth of Christ, Mao actively tried to stamp this aspect of Chinese society out because he knew China would just become a strong state with a weak society (and he was right), and even after 30 million dead he couldn't achieve it. Do you know why Japan is considered high-trust? It's not because of ethnicity as idiots online claim because China is 90% Han like how Japan is 95% Yamato. It's because no one really questions the system there, everyone just puts their heads down and does what they're told, and remembers that as long as they trust the plan (no matter how dumb the plan is) then everything will work out. Where everyone is forced to conform every aspect of their life to the way people say things should be, sometimes for no other reason than, "this is the way things are, so that means it's the way it should be" and the first response to anyone not fitting in their peg is to publicly shame them. A high-trust society is unironic sheep mentality.

Incidents of women being killed and beaten come up every day, but if you do something that offends a man, you can lose your job, be suddenly killed, or be attacked, so there is no room for criticism. When I met up with her last month, she was kinda anxious about what we'd be eating over dinner. She told me her manager says she's too fat and chided her for not cutting enough weight multiple times. She's not even remotely plump. She's around 47-48kg, 165cm tall. She's just not chopstick-thin. And she's a backend staff, she's not even facing clients. She also revealed she had one brief romantic situation with a guy, but it didn't work out because he asked her to submit her job application to multiple companies so he can gauge her value as a potential mate. She already has a job and she said they'd only been flirting with each other for two weeks, not even dating yet. That was the extent of her love life for the three years she lived in Korea.

I don’t remember who was talking about it. It could’ve been you. But they were talking about how gay men often have a characteristic accent. And then went on to mention how people don’t notice this from lesbians. But when researchers actually looked into this, they found that lesbians actually do have a characteristic accent that is so subtle we do not pick up on it, because to society it doesn’t matter. But ideas of masculinity and misogyny lead people to view men who speak with the gay accent as less than. Basically a blatant example of unconscious misogyny. And not one that directly attacks character. They aren’t doing it on purpose. But it’s happening.

I also remember hearing about this, but I think that it wasn't that the lesbian accent was subtler, it was that people see more masculine ways of speaking as the default or more "professional" so a woman speaking with a more masculine affect doesn't seem as out of the norm as a man speaking with a more feminine affect. either way, the fact that it wasn't researched earlier and that having a "gay voice" is seen as lesser is due to misogyny.

Fun fact: there actually *was* a kinda feminist korean website that used the "small pp" hand gesture in the past, specifically to make fun of men. It was basically made by 4chan trolls who happened to be women. The website doesn't even exits anymore, and the symbol itself is so ubiquitous (because that's how hands work), that them seeing it everywhere now is still really pathetic. But the worst part imo is how many companies in Korea are actually kowtowing to these online gamers. The story about the balloon with Hoyoverse "the Genshin devs" was actually korean players raising money for that balloon flying around, demanding they fire a "feminist" artist working on the game. China isn't exactly progressive in this aspect, but even Chinese players and Hoyoverse thought it was ridiculous and just ignored them.

they are not just thumbs. that logo is the icon of k feminazi. no im no using that term to degrade them. they have officially announced themselves as feminazi. the group that was officially banned by reddit as a hate group. koreans consider them as same as andrew tate redpill group, except of other end. korean men hate both feminazi and right leaning red pill groups.

Even Orwell and Huxley would be surprised with the way the Koreas are. Like, both are dystopian nightmares but in different directions

I had never seen up to this point the 4B movement as anything bad nor in a negative light, and I still don't. We have to think of this as an endemic and cultural issue more than a political one. Men tend to be violent, manipulative, controlling and very toxically conservative in that region of the world and in South Korea it is a very different isolated mix of issues plus this.

Surely patriarchy but generally extrem individualization of society forced by the system: if each person cares only for themselfs then everyone is taken care of (ironic German saying)!
