Lightweight wood construction + inadequate firestopping between units + lack of sprinklers = Firetrap.

That's right, blame everything negative on building construction and ignore the lack of good fire department training and the firefighters having no knowledge and understanding of how a fire progresses and the correct ways to contain, suppress, prevent its spread, and extinguishment. Just keep on patting each other on the back for a job well done and completely ignoring the true facts and the same seemingly unstoppable conflagration of adjoining structures, row housing, and nearby buildings will continue to occur. Professional training is the answer and only answer, period !!!

@@theshadow4292 it’s a fact that had there been firewalls, this wouldn’t have gotten so out of hand so fast. You can see how fast it had spread before the first due companies had even arrived. No amount of training can help them fight fires before they’ve arrived on scene.

Was that mentioned in local media as the cause? They clearly had problems getting the fire under control in the early stages.

Why anyone would rent a unit in a complex that contains large numbers of NO FIREWALL protected units is beyond me. When one unit burns THEY ALL BURN. And builders are never held accountable.

There were the appearance of firewall's which sort of indicate these could have once been townhouses. Perhaps during a renovation, the firewalls were breached by a contractor that didn't know what they were doing. Perhaps the "firewalls" were "decorative" instead of functional. As the progression of this fire showed, what were supposed to be firewalls clearly did not perform as intended.

Typically, the fire burns up to the roof line, then runs horizontally, TO OTHER UNITS.

Apparently, the roof divisions that you see are only cosmetic, not actual fire walls. Such a shame .

Open attics were outlawed in most areas years ago. I was at many apartment fires where the fire ran horizontally. Sadly no one learned from that. The apartments that they build today are built with all the wall studs put up first, then the electrical and AC,. Then the plumbing is installed and many of these apartments burn to the ground at this stage because some bone head efficiency expert decided they could wait until last to put up the sheet rock. Clearly they do not understand that the purpose of sheet rock is to slow or stop a fire. Apartment after apartment are being built more than once, wasting good wood because someone wants to save a few pennies by delaying putting up sheet rock when they should. They are now also building these with intentional air flow between floors. This is fine until a fire gets out of the original unit. Once it gets into this vent space, the fire moves horizontally and weakens the floors, making egress almost impossible. Construction folk - please grow a brain and stop doing this!!!

@@hvfd5956 I don't think it's a matter of lack of brains. I think it's a matter of greed. They use shoddy, cheap materials. The less it cost builders, the more profit they make.

Come on Jack where is your colorful repartee Line in operation from the charlie side laddering the alpha side and making entry into the bravo exposure pretty much bang on for a transitional fire attack. Prevent further spread of the fire by cooling the collapsed roofs of the two fire buildings and stop the spread in the bravo and delta exposures with an interior attack. Evenutally extinguish the fire in all the structures. you need to stop your inane hateful commentary because you are even getting nasty comments from other trolls. I used the camera angle to make the decision of which side is the Alpha side the rest is clockwise rotation for the B, C and D sides. you already know I am an NFPA certified level 1 firefighter. was working on level two status when I had to move for work in Edmonton Ab.
