THIS right here is why I LOVE South Park. In some of their topics while they do mostly make fun of it, they have moments like this where they flow it in the comedy to show their message and awareness of these issues/topics. It's a perfect example of it. Some of the kids here have real actual coping mechanisms and tics. Yes the cursing one from the committee, Thomas and Eric's (both real at the end and fake) are hilarious, it's handled with a lot of care and writing skill. Most episodes of South Park are this way. Even the Tourettes Comittee of America and the one in England were impressed with how accurate it is and praises it. Same with Enable Ireland actually for most their disability related episodes! They love it. Much love to the staff man Though the boop tick and clicking fingers one is adorable

I like how South Park treated this quite decently and seriously. Especially this scene. As a small kid I thought Tourette’s was a funny thing cause I didn’t understand it but the episode did a good job at making me no longer finding it funny and seeing the serious condition that deserves respect, I’ve since tried to understand it better and never judge.

I was diagnosed with tourrete syndrome as a child. I had noticible "tics", but they were mostly in my control, and the sounds I would make were more of a compulsive thing rather than involuntary, I could absolutely stop it whenever I wanted, and indeed I did outgrow it. It makes me question the validity of my diagnosis, I 100% am a high functioning autistic. I think they were on the right trail initially, but they just slapped me with the tourretes diagnosis because that was what was sexy at the time.

From what I understand about Tourette's, tics can usually be suppressed if you actively try to stop them, but the mental energy it would take to constantly worry about it is very straining
@smirnoffice8859

I have autism and have little habits and tics rspecially when over stimulated, so it's possible they did misdiagnose. Tics aren't exclusive to tourrettes, they're just much more severe.

As someone with Tourette's, I adore this episode. It's very respectful and toned down, and it feels like the writers tracked down some people was TS and actually spoke to them, had them describe this stupid, humiliating condition honestly. The one thing I don't like is the counselor, but I have a feeling he was supposed to be like that, less interested in helping the kids and more interested in bullying a defenseless child and dressing it up as virtue because he's 'helping'. Actually, maybe that's why he sided so hard with Cartman, their the same type of person.
