Being in the desert, I would really like to see more like this. While I would love to run off to a forrest to do some woodcraft, from Yuma the closest woods is 5 or so hours ago. Hope to see more content from you soon.

What keeps the noose tight for an hour or so once it springs?

If you tie the noose in a blood knot Or half hitch it loose enough to slide shut it will only get tighter with struggle

Works more effectively if you roll the bait stick in pitch glue and then seeds.

Show how you tie it to the tree. I don't get it sorry. But it looks like it would work so well.

Perfectly understandable. All I have is a noose at both ends of the string One to catch the prey and the other simply around the sapling. This allows me to readjust my position on the sapling easily instead of trying and re tying. Hope this helps
