During the Anzac Day long weekend of 24 to 26 April 2022, Transport Heritage NSW and St James Rail operated a re-creation of the Southern Aurora journey from Sydney to Melbourne and return to mark the 60th anniversary since the introduction of the service in 1962 with the opening of the standard gauge railway from Albury to Melbourne. The train was hauled by heritage Clyde GM/EMD diesel electric locomotives S303, T357 and P22 from Seymour Railway Heritage Centre
The video opens with a shot of the train powering through McDougall, just north of Broadford on the afternoon of 24 April. We then head to McIntyre Loop where N464 is leading the empty car movement into the sidings for stabling over the Anzac day public holiday.
On Tuesday 26 April, I followed the returning special north with shots at Broadford, Avenel and Longwood.
