As a proud Maroon myself I totally enjoyed this interview. My grandpa is still alive so I know who I am not by paper work but by oral history handed down. Chief represents to the fullest. Well spoken Ina educated and articulated fashion in a modern up to date way that not only the elders can be proud of but the Youths of today can be enlightened. Thank you.

@askella A Amen to your comment! My mother's father, whose Grandfather was a slave, told him everything the Maroon did to them. The first Heroes Day was when I was growing up and attending school, and I told the teacher that the Maroons were our greatest enemies and an obstacle to our ancestor's freedom from the British. She told me that I was listening to too many Rastas. “My grandfather, grandfather who was a slave, told me, “ “I've heard the same stories, but I thought it was Rasta's propaganda,” She said. Fire 🔥 for every Maroon! The government needs to take back the land and deport them to Britain and face their racist and wicked ally.

@@JahmekyaNo1 I am from another caribbean island and know nothing of Jamaican history or the Maroons BUT if you all want to cause segregation by saying the Maroons captured slaves for the white man, then make note that ALL slaves, ALLLLLLLLLL, WERE CAPTURED AND SOLD BY THEIR OWN PEOPLE. so let's start the discussion there! Let's go back to Africa, where blacks betrayed, captured & sold their own tibes to the white man so that today we can all, as descendant of slaves.... still be here fighting amongst ourselves and hindering our own progress as a people. discuss that!

An absolute gem of an interview. Being a Jamaican living in of all places Belgium, I'm feeling very proud of my roots sister Yendi and brother Chief Currie. It's good to have a detailed refresher on our history and specifically the history of the Cockpit Country, which I'm feeling very proud of. Being an entrepreneur myself, I'm proud to hear of the many initiatives that the Chief is spearheading to put his/our people on the map and to do it with Divine intervention and humility. Way to go! Can't wait to visit and hope there will be a Cockpit Country spa in the making which came to mind when he mentioned Health and Wellness which is my cup of tea!!! You keep repeating a lie over and over and over again. Even the most educated people will believe the lies if they do not read to find out the truth. The Maroon was/is BLACK Jamaican greatest enemy during slavery. They would capture and return runaway slaves and return them to the plantations where the punishment was harsh and brutal in every way. And you believe that the Maroons were good Black people? Did you know that of all the Rebels slaves, it was the late “TACKY” who was able to inflict devastating economic effects on the plantation owners, and it helped the Americans to fight the British monarchy for freedom. Do you know who killed TACKY and decapitated him, and placed his head on a stick? The MAROONS, and not the British. If it were up to the Maroons, we would be in the cane fields chopping canes. Don't forget that the British rescinded the agreement that they had with the Maroons because the White men knew that any person who is a traitor to their race is not a patriot but someone who you should never trust, and that is what the Maroons. Snakes that you must use salt and pepper to get rid of them out of your life.

That was a terrible interview! It was so one sided, She is definitely not a journalist. There was absolutely no probe into the other side of the story. The Maroons are traitors. They sided with the British, and captured Tacky, Paul Bogle, our national hero, and many other black Jamaicans and turned them over to the British to be slaughtered, so I am not sure what you are excited about. You might find him sexy, but to me he is a dangerous person who is hungry for power, and will do anything to destroy our country. You don't know the whole story, and you are going on as, if Currie is talking about a foreign power. He was talking about Jamaica. Our sweet, sweet Jamaica. His design will never be realized! @@juliannajames9217 No, I am not saying that all Maroons are bad. My problem is that this guy Currie wants to divide Jamaica into pieces to satisfy his power grabbing mentality, and all these people including Yendi is drooling about his beauty and intellect. His design, if it were to come through would be disastrous, for Jamaica. It would result in civil war. Also, these admirers seem to think that a foreign power and Andrew Holness is the enemy Currie is talking about. Currie pulled wool over their faces, so to speak, so they are not able to differentiate the thrust of his argument and his beauty and intellect. One of the reasons maybe is because it is not often one hears Jamaicans come on television and talk like him, I don't know. Blessings to you anyway

These admirers are whiped by Currie's perceived intellect, because it seems like he is the only person in Jamaica who speaks well, and is good looking at the same time. Grant you, when many Jamaicans speak on television, and on KZitem we come across as not been educated. We have the tendency to sound crass and not well informed. So, Currie spoke well, and he has an MBA degree. It is not too often you will find a leader of a ragtag entity having the credentials he has, but he is not a smart person. Currie is not a tactician! If he was putting forward the idea of autonomy for Accompong, his ideal could have been plausible, but his quest for sovereign nation would destroy Jamaica, and pits black people against each other. Many of the people who are commenting don't seem to fathom the ramifications of this man's design. Sovereignty would be very bad for the Maroons to begin with. Who would provide health care, security and all the many things that a government must provide for its people? Accompong town would be a landlocked territory with no resources, what would be the incentive for reciprocity with Jamaica? Where would be their airport, their currency, would Jamaica accept their currency? Currie was telling his story, and never had to answer the hard questions, because Yendi was looking for viewers. She was not looking to tell the story of the Maroons in its entirety, looking at both sides of the story. As one viewer said " she was whipped." The treaty the Maroons entered into with the British was not settled prior to Jamaica gaining independence from Britain, so the treaty did not servive independence. But, the truth is, the Maroons are traitors. The Maroons had agreement with the British to capture runaway slaves and return them to the white man. And, they captured many black slaves and returned them to the white man to be slaughtered, including Tacky and our national hero Paul Bogle. Many of the viewers are embracing Currie as, if the enemy he is talking is a foreign power. When he speaks he is talking about Jamaica as the enemy, our country people, not Andrew Holness, I might add. This guy is hungry for power. Run him out of town!

I love this interview so much! As an educator of students who are now learning about their heritage, this has shed some light on the topic. I am definitely more empowered to deliver the content. Thank you Yendi and your eye-catching guest.

The maroons or traitors, back in the days they used to help capture blacks for the British.

Man, you cannot be an educator. You did not hear the whole story of the Jamaica, Maroons, British experience, so why would you teach this to youngsters without veting it? Man, I am embarrassed by your statement. Did you know that the Maroons aligned themselves with the British to capture Tacky, Paul Bogle and many other black Jamaicans? The same heroes that you love so much. Please go and learn the history of Jamaica.

Sovereign state ?? So the laws of the land doesn't apply to them ? I wonder if he has a Jamaican passport? The Maroons use to help capture escaped slaves and return them to the plantations.

This was an excellent interview, Yendi! Smart timing too (or maybe I'm just late) ... I'm sure a lot of us are now forced to (re)examine a lot of what we've been taught/we thought. This forum also does a lot for the Chief's image as well. He comes across as more personable. #KeepGoing

In what ways? The problem is that you focused on his "intelligence." You need to go and look up the treaty, for yourself, read and analyze the treaty. You will come away knowing that Currie's argument could not hold up in a constitutional court. So, do not focus on his perceived intellect, get the facts about the treaty. You heard one side of the story, and since Yendi is such a terrible interviewer, you came away impressed with his intelligence and good looks, but nothing else. By the way, did you know that the Maroons aligned themselves with the British to capture black Jamaicans and returned them to be slaughtered by the British? Did you know that Tacky was captured by the Maroons and handed over to the British to be slaughtered? Also, Paul Bogle and many other black Jamaicans

I like him. He exudes authenticity and it sounds like he has a real passion to help his people. Something we all know is missing in most governments. I also learnt a lot from listening to him. I will be following his journey from now on.
