'And Stalin our leader, by murdering people, enslaved us to build up the land that we love...' Great song, but the reality is that Lenin, Trotsky, Stalin, and all the Bolsheviks were criminals, and Stalin was the most murderous of the lot. Also, nobody since the Pharaos enslaved as many workers as Stalin. WTF do you think the Gulags were, holiday camps? Stalin made the worst capitalists in the world look like the most benevolent employers in history. And here's a sobering thought: If you had to choose between being Adolf Hitler's best friend and Stalin's, with survival as your sole priority, you'd be nuts to choose Stalin. Ernst Rohm and the other victims of the 'Night of the Long Knives' excepted, Hitler killed none of his adherents for political reasons or out of pure paranoia, whereas with few exceptions, notably Kalinin, Stalin slaughtered all the old Bolsheviks. Even Molotov's wife was sent to a Gulag and Alexander Nikolaevich Poskrebyshev's wife was arrested in 1939 and executed in 1941. Stalin was probably scarier to be around than Caligula or Genghis Khan or Idi Amin or any other psycho nutjob.

The more power you give to the state, the more evil and oppressive it becomes. This is why Communism is doomed to fail.
@infinitasalo472

True communism is supposed to be completely democratic, that's why it can't become evil and oppressive. Governments only become corrupt if they put a small minority in charge of an entire nation. As long as there is a bill of rights or equivalent, the democracy won't even be able to exercise tyranny of the majority. I think you're thinking of fascism where an exclusive small group has total control over an entire country.

Lenin and Stalin after him turned a backwater third world dump of a country into the greatest industrial and military power to rival the United States in a matter of a single lifespan. They weren't dictators, they were champions of the people. They were profoundly popular despite the desperate measures they went to in order to preserve the country that so, so many of their friends died to create. A revolution doesn't end after the war, it must go on long after new constitutions are written. Socialist states are dictatorships of the proletariat, which doesn't mean autocracy, it means absolute power rests in the working class; absolute democracy. The Soviet Union failed because they thought they were safe enough to crack the door open. The United States then interfered with their elections and supported a coup that split the nation, as they've done many times in many many places.

@@alfredjones6130 That's an incredibly skewed perspective you're operating on. First, we need to recognise that the USSR and other socialist powers achieved remarkable success and progress in various fields. In 1917, the Russian empire was at about a similar level of development as British India. Many historians agree however, that by 1980, that the USSR had a remarkably good education system, a quite adequate state funded free healthcare system, and a huge participation of women in the workforce. By this time, the USSR also had an only somewhat lower life expectancy of 67 to the US's 73. What's especially worth noting is that the USSR achieved such a remarkable level of success from effectively nothing, an about 60-70 years whilst being cutoff from the entire world, having faced 2 world wars, and constant pressures coming from the outside. The US on the other hand, took about 100 year, whilst being one of the most economically and geographically privileged states in the world. Your perspective seems to suggest that more laissez faire economics is the only system by which progress can occur. However, we have seen time and time again that socialist states, even under dictatorships, have achieved remarkable levels of sucess. You also appear to think that communism apparently inherently entails dictatorship, which of course, is another false assumption. The USSR, while an autocratic state, was not a dictatorship, and rather included many checks and balances systems created by Lenin which had only been abolished under Stalin, but were immediately re-established under Khruschev. However, I think you can refer to the other guy's comment below if you want an explanation as to why socialism/communism indeed does not entail dictatorship.

Whatever one thinks of the USSR, one must admit that this anthem stirs one's very bones. My father was a pilot in the RAF during the War, and man enough to admit that it was the Soviets who did the real work of putting fascism in its grave. A bloody shame to see Putin dishonouring the memories of those brave soldiers by imitating the fascists he claims to abhor. I had the pleasure of visiting the USSR when I was a young woman, with my then-Communist (now socialist) husband in 1979. Despite some obvious problems and deficiencies, we were both very impressed with what the Soviets had accomplished in a country so backwards when compared to the rest of Europe.

When People in the West say communism the mean none demokracy also. But the thing with communism is that the State controles Everything. Becuse of something like that it dosent have to mean dictators rule the country. Demokracy is a very important part of modern communism(atleast in Sweden). Communists want the People to make every desicion there is not that you elect an someone to make rules for you and that is very easy today, just create an app or something then everyone votes in that app. What is decided what to vote for is made by sending a message to the State and there politicans come Into plays They decide what Will be voted on and not. Like you cant vote for stupid things like everyone has to wear Pink underwears on their head. But if someone want to build a New road those living in that area where the road would be votes if They are going to build a New road.
