Between 29 April and 2 May 1989, ITN correspondent Terry Lloyd and cameraman Sebastian Rich followed Afghan Mujahideen leader Tahir Khan and his men as they waged guerrilla warfare against the Communist government of Mohammad Najibullah. Just two months after the last Soviet troops left Afghanistan, the landscape of Kandahar was still littered with reminders of the USSR's decade-long military intervention in the country. From twisted wrecks of Red Army tanks to eery, empty, booby-trapped observation posts, the signs of a venture as costly as it was consequential were everywhere to be seen.
