George I appreciate you sharing your videos and project. I am a fan of aircrete and I found the article that claimed an R-6 potential per inch but this is for a product called airkrete that is a magnezium oxide base not portland cement and they have a special patented foam gun to reach these R levels. It is a great product but expensive and not a DIY product. That article claiming aircrete is up to an R6 is not accurate at all. Typical numbers I have seen in other articles is around 2 to 2.5 R value per inch and this is what I am finding from my own testing. Fiberglass batts are around R3.5 and ridgid white polystyrene is around R4 /inch. I am mixing shredded polystyrene with aircrete and getting 90% of the R value of pure polystyrene and it is much cheaper and lighter than pure aircrete. Also it is a zero slump mix and does not require water tight molds like aircrete requires. Plus the water content of the foam is not nearly as finicky to get a good mix as it is with pure aircrete. I hope to make some videos soon when the weather warms up. Good luck with your project.

Hi Stephen, welcome to my channel! You have peaked my interest and I am developing a shredder in my mind already. What ratio of shredded styrofoam are you using?

Hi George, I am doing a mix of 3 1/2 gallons of portland, 2 gallons of water, 25 gallons of foam, and 45 gallons of shredded styrofoam. This is essentially shredded styrofoam glued together with aircrete. for your application of pure insulation you can got to 60 gallons of styrofoam since you don't need the strength and just wanting to hold it together. I built a shredder out of an electric lawnmower flipped upside down and taped a 55 gallon plastic barrel to it with bottom cut out. I made a giant blender essentially. Much faster than the shredder designs on KZitem. I have written an article on all of this that I can email you. Send me an email at stephen.williams64@yahoo.com@@ruggedist

@@stephenwilliams4534 Yes, even Airkrete is not going to be R6 per inch bone dry, but it is very good stuff. Thanks for your shredder idea - it must be very exciting to operate when the foam pieces get really small. Trim your nails at the same time. I was about to build one similar to Aircrete Harry's, with a drum of screw heads, but was not looking forward to hours of feeding foam and dealing with the powder. My lawn mower won't run upside down though... It doesn't just blow foam dust all over the place?

@@stephenwilliams4534 How does the styrofoam aircrete perform in a fire? Mostly concerned about the release of poisonous gasses.

Can someone weigh it for me. How much of a 94lb bag is 3.5 gallons of cement
@jackdohurty517

I was told that at the most its only an r2 per inch.

Developed a pressure tank to force the aircrete through a hose and it worked perfectly. Stay tuned for next video!
