Your video was super helpful! My heater got knocked over as it was put away this morning and now it suddenly started screeching tonight when I tried starting it. I'm just gonna buy a new one to replace it as I have no electrical skills tools or knowledge. Thanks to the information.

for the clicky example, i have a bit of a weird setup where i have the space heater set on max connected to a smart outlet (i could use relays directly but i feel much safer working with 5v than 240v :D). i have a microcontroller running as a temperature sensor and a PID controller, which sends instructions to the smart outlet, so i get multiple types of clicks now from both thermostats doing things :)

Thank you for this video. Easy to watch. You didn't cover rattling noise but mine is intermittent and it seems to have gone away after warming up. It just started rattling/clacking (I guess?) [How to describe sounds lol] but I'm hoping once I blow out the dust it will be okay. I've had this Lasko space heater 2 years so I'm hoping it's okay as is since the sound was only right after I turned it on 🙃

I am not sure if it's a screeching or humming sound but it only starting making this particular noise tonight. I have unplugged it and turned it off. I'm very cautious. I guess I'll have to but a new one. It is an infrared stove type from Tractor Supply. It's worked for almost 4 years. The part that looks like a fireplace quit working last year but the heat was fine until now. Although it was cutting off by itself at times. ( After listening once more I believe it's closest to the screeching sound).

Could the continued hummig sound start ruining it? Even though you said there's nothing to worry about, if its humming constantly could it possibly mean the need to change the transformer or check the electrical installation? Thanks for the help! Very usefull video

My new one does have a slight humming noise Thing is my old one. Same company and basic design did not have this noise. Also my thermostat will not click on till the thermostat is turned midway. The old we clicked on right away. Thing works great other wise. Hate to exchange it to see if I have a bad one.

Ah okay, I have the squealing noise then with my Alpina convection heater from Action that I bought 2 weeks ago. It did not make that noise at first, but after using it every day for approximately 5 hours, it started making this weird annoying sound. It happens when I switch to setting 750W + 1250W or setting 1250W (only 750W setting does not make this sound).

All the sounds I have on my Sunbeam SQH310 that makes weird noises are Different from your sounds because mine is a quartz infrared tower heater and when I turn it on it makes a weird buzzing sound until it warms up all the way and it makes a knocking sound. Also the fan on the inside of it is loud it makes a pretty loud humming sound coming from the fan for some reason. Also when it turns on it sparks a little spot on the heat line that glows and when it's on for a long time it makes another weird buzzing sound for about 10 seconds and stopes really weird. Really strange heater. It's a newer model too we got it in 2016. I don't get why it's acting like this.

Also on top of all that I already cleaned it out and looked at the inside everything it's fine. So I have no idea why it's making weird noises and stuff in the first place. It has settings 1 and 2 and it only works on low 1 lol and it's not even that old for a heater it's age.

the space heater i have makes a slightly lower "wowowow" or "erererer" noise sometimes, but i assume this is due to resonance somewhere, because when i move it abit it stops

Right, there's probably a vibration feedback loop. Nothing to worry about, especially since it stops if you move it

Hey maybe you can help me. My space heater is one of the wooden infrared ones with wheels. It makes a banging noise now. Its not continuous and I believe it happens only when initially heating up and heating back up after it has cooled. It will knock once every half hour or so. A loud knock and only once. Is this bad? I was going to buy a new one but figured I'd ask first. Maybe its not really an issue. Thank you.

Nice video. Though it did not cover rattling noise for some reason? Also your recommended list of heaters didn't include any "regular" standard heaters with fans? I have a Noma that started to rattle. As a side question since you're an electrician. I use the heater every night. One end of a thick extension cable that's white is getting brown from the heat generated through it. Is this avoidable? Considering how often I use it I wouldn't think so. Thanks

Hi, in my experience they recommend to plug heaters straight into an electrical outlet and not use extension cords. Hope this helps!

My heater is a quartz tower heater with a fan and thermostat. Note when the heater reaches the temp I have selected it will click and the heating element will go off while the fan continues to run for about 30 seconds. It has started doing this. After I turn it on and it has been running at least an hour or more it starts clicking. It starts clicking clicking very fast at random time intervals even though it hasn't reached the selected temp. To me it sounds exactly like the thermostat has gone crazy and it's trying to turn itself off and on over and over without it ever going off. It has never tripped the. breaker. I know this isn't normal, am I correct to think it has something to do with the thermostat? Although it will still turn off at the selected temp I chose. I paid $100 for the heater and like most people would agree 100 bucks isn't much, at least it wasn't when I was working. Now I'm on disability and with that being my only source of income now $100 is quite a sum of money.

Is it a new heater? It sounds to me like it's a few years old and it collected dust which trips the overheat protection, which is the clicking you hear. Did you try open up the heater case and check that it's dust-free inside?
@LH-kz2nf
11 ай бұрын
@heatertips I used it last winter, and it started making the noise the first night I used it this season. And yes, I did take it apart and clean out the dust because it doesn't have any kind of filter system. When I get the chance, I'm going to open it again and take a look at it. I wasn't going to risk running it like it was. After a lot of research, I decided to purchase a new "Heat Storm" heater. So far, I love it. I can set the temp and put it on auto and not worry about it. It's wifi compatible, and with the app on my phone, I can turn it on or off and change the temp from anywhere I'm at as long as I have internet service on my phone. If I can get the other heater fixed, I'll use it in my shop when it's not so cold and save my propane for the really cold days

@@LH-kz2nf Sure, Heat Storm is a solid choice. Did you get a model with air filters in the sides? These are dust-safe and should never overheat if you shake out or wash the filters every few months.

@@heatertips Mine has removable filters. I bought the wall mount version, and I can't believe how good it has been working. I repaired the other heater (I thought🤷). After running for 30 minutes, the temp increased 1 degree, but I noticed the heat wasn't very warm. At the 30-minute mark, there had been no clicking like before. Then there was a small cherp then another. Finally, it made a small squealing noise that's when I turned it off and unplugged it. I think I did solve the problem of the clicking noise, though. Correct me if my line of thinking is wrong, please. That being said, I know I won't use the correct terminology while trying to explain what and why I did things. Once I had the back off of it, I found what I thought was the thermal overload protection switch. It's vagly similar to the old school points once used in vehicles and lawn mowers. Also, it was the only thing possible that could have been making the clicking noise. The switch was clean as well as the rest of the inside because I had cleaned it before I first started it. I noticed what I thought was the problem. Before, when I used a vacuum and air hose to clean it, I didn't really inspect the fan. It's a tower heater, so it has a long round what I call squirrel cage fan in it. On the inside of each fan blade, there was a thick cake like dust sticking to them. Then it clicked, "I live in georgia where the humidity is crazy." I'm thinking the moisture in the air and it being pulled into the fan mixed with the dust and caused it to stick like it did. With all the caked on dust, the fan weighed a whole lot more. The thermal protection switch works by sensing heat and operates within a certain temp range. If something makes the heater use more power then the Temps rise. I ithink the fan had gotten so heavy from the build up the fan motor was getting hotter and it kept the TPS it on the edge of running and tripping causing the clicking. That leads me to the chirping and squealing noise. With all the extra weight on the fan it could have started wearing the bushins/ bearings. After I cleaned it and put it back together I started if up and the fan was running really fast, I think because it was lighter in weight. So the the speed was back to normal and maybe wore the bushing a lil more to cause the squeal. I don't know why the heat was slightly warm because the quartz tubeswe're glowing orange. So am I even close here ?🤷🤏 My hard drive is almost full because I've had to take so many KZitem courses in the past few years. I can't count all the two weeks degrees I've had to earn on different things lol. A crash course in capacitors is coming soon😁
