That music. Brilliant! Got to be some of the most atmospheric sounds EVER!

Every time I look back at these old games I realise they are not as good looking as I remember. I'm guessing my imagination must have filled in the gaps.

Yeah in this day of computer gaming we all had an idea or notion of what we wanted to see/play, funny how times have changed!

This may be true, but computer screens are also worse today than the CRTs these games were played on. (worse black levels, much worse motion clarity/persistence blur, fixed pixel grid with ugly upscaling). They're also often not the same gamma ramp as the game was intended to be displayed on; this isn't wrong per se, but the game will not look as intended (tends to look more washed out). Display technology for gaming peaked at the end of CRTs in the early 2000's; then it took a massive hit with the the mass production of LCDs; since then LCD technology has slowly been approaching CRTs but is still quite far behind. In the mid 00's LCDs were 15 bpp TFT panels, usually with 5:4 aspect ratio (1280x1024) which was a common CRT resolution with non-square pixels; the LCD did not have non-square pixels so it instead displayed older games as stretched in native resoltion. There was MASSIVE ghosting; this is mostly solved by overdrive today (but sometimes displays as an inverted shadow, especially on gray-to-gray transitions or if aggressive overdrive is selected).

@@soylentgreenb truth. Square pixels makes CRT to TFT conversion look particularly bad. CRT pixels are round, so you get a smooth aliasing. Combined with rescaling, TFT square pixels result in not just poor blending but ugly banding and moiré effects, and frame buffer upscalers simply don't have the latency (and good luck trying to handle multiple resolutions on the same screen!) Sadly, reproduction of actual pixel graphics quality may not be foremost in mind for the majority of users. I wager it's pretty much only a subset of the 16/32 bit crowd who care deeply about it at this point. The PC crowd don't appear to have minded; they mostly thought that was a problem addressed via SVGA. So they won't push for better tech. Although I really hope this will change.

This was the first game I ever completed on the Amiga. One of the original disks had a problem that made the game crash at the end of one of the levels. I had to send it back to EA for it to be replaced. The music is MUCH better than the PC version.

Amazing music, I don't think I've ever heard more spooky tracks in a game. I never got far in this sadly, but it was nerve wrecking

"I don't think I've ever heard more spooky tracks in a game" Then check out the soundtrack in Silent Hill games. Preferably the first three.

Indeed. Space Hulk for Amiga was screaming for AGA version. Unfortunately, it never materialized. ECS version was a good port but missed quite many features from PC version. AGA port would have made that possible.

So hard, but a fantastic game. Nothing quite like the terror of seeing blood splats and static on a screen when you're trying to doing something else.

Agreed 100%. Almost reminds me of Shadow of the Beast in its style, but definitely eerier than the PC version. The loading screen music brings back so many tense memories!
