Spaceship Earth Is A Omnimover Dark Ride Located In World Celebration Formerly Future World At Epcot In The Walt Disney World Resort In Florida. The Ride Opened On October 1st 1982 Along With The Rest Of Epcot. The Design & Ride System Was Made By Walt Disney Imagineering. The Ride Has 4 Seats Per Vehicle With 2 Rows & 2 Guest Per Row. The Capacity Of The Ride Is 2400 Guests Per Hour. The Ride Is 16 Minutes. The Ride Uses Elaborate Sets & Advanced Audio Animatronic Figures. In The Ride, You'll Journey Through Time & Explore The Remarkable History Of Human Communication From The Stone Age To The Computer Age & Witness Landmark Moments Of Amazing Innovation That Made Today's Spectacular Communications Technology Possible. Spaceship Earth Is The Flagship Attraction Of Epcot & The Signature Symbol Of The Park.
The Music For The Ride Was Composed By Edo Guidotti From November 23rd 1994 To 2007 Then From 2007, Emmy Winner Bruce Broughton Who Conducted A 63 Piece Orchestra & 24 Voice Choir For The Ride's Music Score, If You Listen Closely, You'll Notice That The Music For Each Scene Features Styles & Instruments Appropriate To The Era. A Variety Of People Have Hosted The Attraction Such As Vic Perrin From October 1st 1982 To May 25th 1986, Walter Cronkite From May 29th 1986 To August 15th 1994, Jeremy Irons Who Voiced Scar From The Lion King From November 23rd 1994 To July 9th 2007 To Current Host Academy Award Winner Dame Judi Dench Who Began Narrating On December 8th 2007. The Ride Has Had A Variety Of Sponsors Including Bell System From 1982 To 1984, AT&T From 1984 To January 1st 2004 & Siemens From November 2005 To October 10th 2017. In 1986, The Ride Introduced A Theme Song Called Tomorrow's Child. On October 1st 2022, Spaceship Earth & Epcot Celebrated Their 40th Anniversary Which Was Part Of Walt Disney World's 50th Anniversary Celebration.
The Symbolic Geosphere That Houses Spaceship Earth Or Referred To As A Giant Golf Ball Towers 180ft Above The Park & The Weight Of The Sphere Is A Whopping 15,520,000 Pounds & The Geosphere Has 11,324 Tiles On. In Celebration Of The Year 2000/The Millennium, A 25 Story Magic Wand Held By A Representation Of Mickey Mouse's Hand Was Built On The Side Of The Sphere. Inspiration For It Came From The Sorcerer's Apprentice Sequence In Fantasia. At The Top Of The Structure Was A Large Cut Out Of The Number 2000. This Structure Was Constructed To Have A Lifetime Of About 10 Years & It Was Left Standing After The Millennium Celebration Ended. In 2001, The Number 2000 Was Replaced With The Word Epcot In The Walt Disney Font.
On July 5th 2007, Epcot Announced Spaceship Earth Would Be Restored To It's Original Appearance & That The Magic Wand Structure Would Be Removed In Time For The Parks 25th Anniversary On October 1st 2007, It Began To Be Removed On July 9th 2007 & Was Completed By August 24th 2007. Cast Members Can Actually Go To The Top Of The Dome, There Is An Elevator That Goes All The Way Up. There Is Also A Sister Sphere Located At The Theme Park, Europa Park. The Sphere Is Also Designed With Something Special, When It Rains, No Water Pours Off The The Sides Onto The Ground, All The Water Is Collected Through One Inch Gaps In The Facets Into A Gutter System & The Water Is Channeled Into The Lagoon Located In The Park. The Construction Of The Sphere Took 26 Months.
