Compare today’s hip hop with this incredible music. No comparison. What happened to today’s youth? So sad.

the spaniels came to philly for a show and Pookie told about an accident that they came upon and stopped to help, but nitn was too late, he then dedicated the next song to the victoms "peace of mind". If that didnt give you a chill, you didnt nhave a pulse.

Sir1238 you hit the cream of the crop with the groups you listed. You started with my favorite, The Moonglows. Bobby Lester & Harvey Fuqua did things with harmony that are just about forgotten.........what a period in music history.

My group did a few Spaniels' covers, and this was our signature song back in the day. As part of the old neighborhood street corner group scene, we and those who listened to the groups, were more interested in the melodies and the harmonies rather than just banging around to rhythms, although that was also exciting. Because of this, the slower tunes were used more often, to showcase the notes, the vocals, the blends, and harmony was king. There were no better times for the young as far as music was concerned, at least in my personal opinion, than when the groups sang on corners, in Laundromats, in parking garages, subways, even in alleyways---anyplace where the acoustics were right. If they made it to higher levels, great. If not, they still sang, and the public was grateful for the local singers who entertained them for free.

Musically, the best of days. Where I lived in the Bronx, there was an old reservoir called the Oval that had been transformed into a park many years before. On the two opposite ends, there were short tunnel-like entrances in which any sounds gave back perfect echos. Guess what we did there that I now miss so much.
