I also was thinking of using the Ford spare tire crank up part. I like this idea. You definitely were thinking outside the box. Looks like you thought long and hard. Awesome idea to re-purpose the tongue jack. Thanks for sharing.

Awesome idea. I was planning to mount mine with a spare tire hoist for a ford truck (about $40), but this is great - bravo and thanks for sharing! :)

What happens when the spare tire carrier fails? Not saying it will, but everything fails and needs planned ahead for said failure. I have a car hauler I am deciding on where to put the spare tire. I like the idea of under the trailer using a salvaged truck spare tire carrier cable and winch. I also thought of something similar to what you have done, with a pulley. But when the spare tire comes free while under the trailer, think of what will happen. I once lost a truck spare tire that was under the bed and didn't even know it. You definitely would notice losing one from a trailer particularly if it was mounted forward where it would be forced upright underneath the trailer and lift the whole thing up real quick throwing it sideways, possibly? I really hate to realize the obvious after the fact. Again, not being critical of your ideas. We think alike. But just wondering if putting the spare under the trailer is even a good idea? Another thing to consider would be clearance between the spare tire and the road. Both under normal conditions and then again when your trailer tire is flat and the clearance gets even less. I cleaned up the frame on my Silverado recently and had to remove the spare tire for better access. Seemed fairly simple. But that was in my driveway, not on the shoulder of the interstate with semis flying past at 70 mph. Thanks for the video and good luck.

Cool concept, but what about ice, rusting, mud, etc. when you get a few miles and years on the trailer?

Is that a steel cable wire used on the pulley system or just some or 550 cord? Just thinking as far as wear and tear based off of weather conditions on the road.

I think my biggest issue would be ground clearance. But still a clever idea..

I can see right now cost a lot of money just to put the tire under the trailer van your ground clearance is not going to be all that good I think this is stupid of course that's my opinion by the time you get that tire down on the ground I could get the one off the side and probably have it on the trailer
