sat night at the pub ....pistonbroke, when you have old rings and carboned pistons and you fitting a new set snap a old ring grind it to a comfortable angle and use it to clean the ring grooves out

Hello there - I'm currently doing an engine rebuild of my TEF20 and am at the stage of fitting the new piston rings (from Sparex) - the 4th ring is one of those Duaflex sets and 3 of the individual rings have a concave shape on one side and convex on the other. I've taken a look at the technical diagram on the Sparex website, but I'm not particularly sure of the order/orientation I should put them on in. Thanks very much

They should have a diagram on the packet but they go together with the inner rings touching on the midle of the paire and on the pairs the outer touches.

Just wondering why was there so much distance between the ends of the old ring compared to the new one. I can imagine that some metal would wear away over time but surely not 9mm! I presume it started life with a much wider gap than the new Sparex one?

No they would have been similar, that is why no compression and the dust getting into the engine wears the rings first. Just a very worn engine.
