Hi Lisa, discovered your channel last night and have found it so informative and easy to follow. As an english mat salleh here for almost 16 years and married locally, my need to speak malay has been minimal as my work with a large international Bank involved offshoring and supporting our primarily european, asian and american operation. English and occasionally french were the order of the day. I'm ok with european languages and their structure but no matter how many " How to speak Malay " books I've acquired, I could never get to grips with the language and its lack of verbs, and their conjugation, genders and plurals. I'm thrilled to have finally found an approach in your lessons that makes sense of it all and it has finally started to fall into place - hopefuly enough to give me a chance to apply for PR. Looks like I still have a lot of your lessons to watch and learn from but it's now got me much more fired up and hopefully, I learn to be less reliant on my stepkids to translate or speak english. Terima kasik kak 👍

I have learned in previous video, sure means Pasti. Can we use Boleh instead of Pasti. Or Boleh means Can and Sure?
@sierralisse8897
3 жыл бұрын
Boleh means can while pasti means you're sure of something. Also, boleh can be used to mean you agree to or with something, just like in English, you can use sure to mean you agree to or with something.

Tumpang tanya, bila kita untuk 'bentu' atau 'tolong'? For example: I am in a cafe, and order a cup of coffee, there is an empty seat but some food leftover on the table. So now, should I say to the waiter: Boleh bentu saya bersihkan meja tu? or Boleh tolong saya bersihkan meja tu? Which sentence is correct? Why can't we use that word?
@sierralisse8897
5 жыл бұрын
Hello, The correct spelling is 'Bantu'. Bantu means to assist, whereas Tolong means to help. The difference is as small as the difference between 'assist' and 'help' in English. If you want to REALLY get down to details though, I feel that when I 'bantu' someone, I am playing a secondary, supportive role whereas when I 'tolong' someone, I take on the primary role of solving whatever problem at hand. This is the subtle difference that I get surrounding these two words. So in the case of asking a waiter to clean the table, 'tolong' would fit it better since you're asking this person to take on the primary role of clearing the table. You CAN use both Bantu/Tolong saya bersihkan meja. But regardless of situation, I am always more partial to Tolong since it is less formal. Bantu has a stiff, formal, polite feel to it. Hope this answer helps.

Hi Sierra, could u explain when to use tolong and bantu to ask help? And kat & di also mean “at”, can use both to locate something?
@Mykk138
4 жыл бұрын
@Michelle Nguyen Basically malaysians mostly use tolong rather than bantu.For example: 1)if u wanna shout for help,say tolong!(help!) 2)boleh tak tolong saya?(can you help me?) 3)awak nak saya tolong tak?(you want me to help you?) For kat and di,basically we don't use di in daily life,it's only for writing.so you only use kat,for example: 1)saya kat kl sekarang(i'm at kl now) 2)awak kat mana?(where are you?) 3)saya tinggal kat melaka(i live in melaka Hope that i help you☺️

Thank for your video , but I am confuse about what is grammatically arrange word for sentence ex; subject , object , verb , adverb , what is arrange in Malay language ?
@Mykk138
4 жыл бұрын
Basically in malay,it's almost the same in english BUT we always put adjectives after nouns,for example: 1)saya ada pen biru which directly means i have pen blue 2)Tu bukan buku kakak saya which directly means 'that not book sister my'(just turn around 'my sister's book' and that's how you got it For questions,it's sometimes a little bit different with english 1)awak nak makan apa? directly means you want eat what? 2)awak nak ikut tak? Directly means you want join/follow no?(if it's yes/no questions,add 'tak' at the end) 3)awak beli apa tu? directly means you buy what that?(what are u buying?)
