Absolutely excellent video. It reminded me of the Sure V15 super plus vinyl test record i bought { and still have } in the 70s. I also purchased the Acoustic Reperch vinyl around the same time . I am obviously having problems as i have tuned into your channel for advice .After seeing your video i realis its back to basics , as in I always set my system up in this manor in the 70s ,so i will move my listening area around in order to get the speakers away from back & side walls then put my sure test record on after many years and start getting the sound im striving for. Many thanks and keep posting exhalent videos . Gerald

I found this very useful as well. Turns out my 15 year old Cambridge Audio Azur 650A amp is the problem here. Luckily I have a balance control and turning it 15 degrees clockwise (for right channel) fixed the center imaging. This is after a solid 40 minutes of playing with speaker positioning and toe-in which didn't fix anything.

Very helpful to have illustration with human head - I'm always confused if "left speaker" means "left" side of stereo, or left as seen from sofa. This clears it up : )

Practical advice indeed. With respect to loudspeaker placement, don't be reluctant to experiment. Ain't no doubt about it, ya might find the perfect speaker location and wouldn't that be boss.

This is assuming we have the same hearing capability in each of our ears. Personally my left ear is slightly worse than my right so that might affect where I put my speakers.

Thank for the comment. But this exercise is using your ears to confirm the speakers test tone locations so I would think the end result shall be based on your ears hearing capability. give it a try and let us know how this will work for your situation.

I think there might be some issue with the placement here. It's like the stereoimage is rotated slightly to the right for the entire clip, including the vocal, so even the vocal or centre hit is perhaps 10-20 cm to the right of the absolute center point (2.4 m distance between speakers). Especially the two first on the left side is not far enough to the left compared to the right side. I could not affect the issue at all even when putting acoustic panels directly by the speakers or by my listening position to eliminate reflections, so I tried to flip the channels (done digitally, so the analog playback chain stays the same to rule out amplifier channel imbalance or something like that) so right plays left and vice versa and the problem was now reversed! I am now pretty sure that this video is not 100% accurate. Perhaps the source is, but maybe youtube compression affects the result. Even if i enable Dirac Live the issue is unaffected.

Something must be off on your end. Track checks out perfect in PEEL visualizer, as well as comparing the waves down to the bits (not a time issue)

You most likely have the distances or the levels set slightly wrong in your AVR. The delays (equal to the distances) are active even when Dirac is set to “Through” or “Bypass” - this is also the case with the YPAO in Yamaha AVRs.

Great video. Guess my left side isn’t optimal. Only the right side had sound 8 and 9 outside. Sound 1 and 2 was close to the speaker. Didn’t help moving the speakers either. So can others confirm that sound 1 and 2 is well outside the left speaker?
@goldensound9741
Жыл бұрын
Normally 2 & 8 will be right on the speakers. Only 1 & 9 will be outside the speakers. If moving the speakers is not helping then it is very likely your side walls are not reflecting the off axis sound properly. Check my other video which can show you some possibilities.

What’s a good starting off distance between the listener and speaker
@goldensound9741
6 ай бұрын
Most of the recommendations you can find on the web is the equilateral triangle position between your listening position and the two speakers. This means all three corners are 60 degree. My personal preference is to move the listener position little further away from the speakers as demonstrated in the video so the angle from listener to two speakers are less than 50 degree. Try it with different distance as your room will affect where is the best lighting position for your specific case.
