Another cool vlog!!! But as awesome as it is, I think Camper stole the show on this one 😂🐶

I’ve also learned not to use V log for certain client needs. Cine D has been my go to for fast turnaround. I haven’t been a fan of HLG but it’s great for certain lightning scenarios.

Great to know there’s another Lumix shooter from my home state! Haha - I’ve been a big fan of Cine D and Natural lately! Caleb Hoover has a video covering some of his video settings in the Natural profile. I stole them and have been liking the look! 😂

Hey Andrew, just wanted to comment on the turnaround time that you said your client was not pleased with. Two weeks is absolutely acceptable. Most of our corporate gigs are two weeks if they’re simple talking head videos. If they require more work, then we give them a more realistic timeframe of 4 to 6 weeks. We also give them the option to speed up the process if they decide to pay a rush fee. That should give them peace of mind that they can get their project quicker and it also gives us an incentive to either get it done faster by spending more time on it, even if that requires overtime, or send it out to an external editor who can get it done while we’re working on other projects. But to be quite honest, anything faster than a two week turnaround is worth a premium upgrade. Just thought I’d throw my two cents in there. 👍

Thanks Michael! Really appreciate the input. I had clearly communicated with the client in advance that the edit would take about two weeks. Especially since it wasn’t a “quick” social media package - it was a promo video. I definitely agree with a longer turnaround on a bigger project or charging a premium for a rush job! Unfortunately with this one, I just think it was a simple communication breakdown.

Yup it's the slow season for alot of us, compared to last year when I wasnt really freelancing and networking I'm still doing alot better than last year but I've kinda taken the extra time to try to reach out to agencies and businesses for work. Update my website and overall prepare for the busy season when it begins again. Doing camera tests is a great idea though, how are you liking the panasonic ecosystem? I come from a canon, sony and blackmagic background with my current camera being the Sony FX3. I've only used the panasonic GH5 a few times on shoots but I did like how lightweight it was with M43 glass. felt like the only camera system I could actually stuff an entire kit into a backpack and actually have everything I needed.

I just came back from a networking event, actually. If I'm being honest with myself, I'm only just starting to market my freelance work outside the agency. I never made a true effort before, but I realized a couple of months ago that I need to be more proactive instead of reactive. Still learning what that looks like for me, but it's a fun process at the very least! The Panasonic ecosystem is the only one I truly considered after comparing specs to other similar cameras - the GH6 was half the price of the A7SIII and had pretty much all the same features. The menu system is super intuitive, I love the look of V-Log, I just need to step up my color grading abilities. The stabilization is incredible. I'm overall pretty happy with it. I'm definitely curious to experiment with the Sony and Canon ecosystem at some point, especially cameras like the FX6 and the C200, but that is for a later point in my career maybe, haha

@@rivvidproductions Yeah I've seen people do amazing stuff even with the GH4 and GH5, great cameras, I wish Sony could learn from what panasonic is offering for video shooters as I'm still shocked some exposure options or codecs that they offer that Sony doesn't

Thanks for the video. How did you grade the HLG footage? I normally use V-LOG but interested in trying out HLG.

All of the examples in the video are fresh out of camera! No color grading applied during the edit 😊 which is really what I need - something that looks good out of camera with minimal to no grading needed for quicker client turnaround.

@@rivvidproductions Thanks for the reply. I will have to try out HLG then, because I thought it would be in a wider dynamic range / wider color gamut than regular old Rec. 709

I’m definitely no expert on HLG but it was more pleasing to the eye than anticipated. Curious to see what kind of results you get from it!
