Wonderful video. Brings back memories of early 1983 when I was an aquanaut on a Hydrolab mission in St. Croix. We went out one evening and "sat" on the reef watching it come alive with the incredible "bubbling" of these ostracods. Something that will always be in my memory. I had done many evening snorkels or dives as a grad student in Guam and had never seen such a sight.

Very cool video -- we got to see these on a night dive in Bonaire. One of the most magical things I've ever seen. Thanks for sharing!

In a sense, a very smart tactics. Illuminating in the darkness would be more efficient to find mate than with sight in daytime for such a tiny creature. Do they, by the way, have a biological clock to synchronize their performance & a pitch-dark night?

2:49 infra-red, through water? But isn't infra-red blocked by water? Water vapour is a potent greenhouse gas, I wouldn't think IR would penetrate through liquid water at all 🤷♀️.
