I believe your right, using speed to distract you from what they really want to do. They tried the mandatory black box in the US about 10 years ago, but everyone was against it. They will try again. As for limiting speed, I drove tractor trailer (Lorry) for 15 years at a limited speed. The insurance companies will not insure companies unless they limit their trucks. What a pain in the rear it was driving at a limited speed. Especially merging into traffic or keeping your distance. One of the reasons I left driving for a living.
@aleksandersuur9475

I think you are not computing the concept of "mandatory", it doesn't particularly matter if everyone is against it. Since model year 2018, it has been mandatory i n the EU for new cars to have GPS and a cell modem in the ECU! The idea is that the car can phone emergency services in case of an airbag release, Though it doesn't seem to be implemented like this? Looking closer at the specifications, the system developed by a Swiss company on an American license has a backdoor that allows remote activation so that both law enforcement and hackers can dial your car up and have it tell where it is and possible disable it remotely too! Owners are also completely oblivious to the presence of such a system in their cars as well. This is very similar to US systems in luxury cars, and I'm quite it is in violation of several EU data protection and privacy laws, or at least have the potential to be.
@Tore_Lund
5 жыл бұрын
@TheHotcrumbs If you are talking about the cell modem, yes. Open up the ecu and put in an old not working sim card, that still has the potential for tracking though, so better solder a 50 OHM resistor across the antenna connector maybe even unsolder the cell modem entirely. Usually they are on a separate board soldered to the main pcb. The ECU will then try to dial up but fail and think there is a modem error. This should not throw an error code vital for driving, but I'm not entirely sure having never messed with a car this vintage.

Every car in the eu post 2018 already has mandatory gps inside the ecu, the system itself is just a software update. Even the black box can be added into the ecu via update, just using the existing storage. You may need to install a camera and for pre 2018 cars a gps module but thats about it. Can be done for under £50. Breathalyser is bullshit btw. Or at least no mention of it in this plan. ec.europa.eu/info/law/better-regulation/have-your-say/initiatives/12222-Vehicle-safety-technical-rules-test-procedures-for-intelligent-speed-assistance

If the driver crashes due to being distracted, the speed still determines the level of trauma caused. Speeding in itself is often not the cause of the accident, but multiplies the damage caused exponentially. Also on the black box...in your train of thought... a black box on a plain would be ‘authoritatuan’. There is a difference between measuring vehicle statistics and human intent whilst using that vehicle. humans are the weakest aspect of traffic. Any way to control speeds and monitor behaviour is vastly more beneficial to society than personal preferences. Traffic is a social construct, not a personal playground

It’s because people speed, and speed is a factor in so many crashes (I won’t call them accidents as most these days involve some form of stupidity or recklessness) that these measures are being brought in! The old adage “If you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime” has never been more relevant! I have nothing to worry about as I don’t tear up and down the high street of pretty much all provincial towns in the UK. Unfortunately this is done mostly in modified, shitty old cars that won’t be affected by this legislation for some time yet. If speeding was only limited to idiots flying off the country roads at 100mph, I would be all in favour of it, but sadly there are more often than not innocent victims involved. Victims with families, brothers, sister, children. Look how much dashcam footage only involves single occupant vehicles with nobody else involved; hardly any. Instead of bleating on about how badly done to you are for breaking the law, how about promoting safe and legal driving techniques that are sadly lacking on the roads. Nah, that’s the hard bit, right?

We have a love affair with speed, an unhealthy one I believe. When the speed limit is 70mph what is the point of building a car that is capable of more than twice the legal speed limit? There will be a cultural mindshift needed here, but I believe that in 30yrs time people will look back and think WHY did we allow people to drive like maniacs at irresponsible and dangerous speeds which resulted or were major contributors to thousands of people each year being seriously injured or killed. Anybody who thinks they have the 'right' should go and talk to the Father or Mother of a youngster killed by a speeding driver and tell them about their 'right' to drive at any speed they feel like. It's about accountability and responsibility and creating a society that is mature enough to recognise that some individual freedoms need to give way to the freedoms of the majority, and I believe this is a step in the right direction.

Mark 1.15 15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel. 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
