These guys fill such a great niche. Useful for any kind of sci-fi baddies, but also for humanities most numerous foe in 40k. I know people love GW minis, and they are great, but if you just like simple figures in great numbers, they are no fun at all because they are way too detailed and unique (and expensive!).
@paulyg405

absolutely true. GW have forgotten that the basic troops for horde armies don't need to be amazing models, they need to be affordable, simple but effective designs

Surely WGA has just hit the target with these new boxed sets. They would be perfect as Kriegs ' enemies, I just saw on KZitem an animated short where their heretics enemies were pratically identical! P.s., if you want to give them an uniform look, VMC Cavalry Brown would be perfect, it remember Khorne Red without being too flashy.

It only makes sense that wasteland raiders or ad hoc cult militias wouldn't have a set uniform color. They'd wear whatever clothing they could get their hands on. Under muddy wash, they'll all come together in the end.

Different colours within the same force can look awesome! I do that for my 40k bloodaxe orks, no two orks are the same, different coloured armour, different camo patterns, the whole works, heck I even use a big selection of greens and mix and match on an ork by ork basis for the skin tones, takes a while but looks good in the end!

Variety makes sense for large armies, as much as we want to have all uniform armies, variation exists even in real historical militaries, why not have that in our sci fi armies too?

I've been REALLY looking forward to these minis. I've always loved the Traitor Guard for 40K, but they haven't really sold many sets, and the sets they do sell are (like most things Warhammer) pricy, especially to field a decent army. But these guys will fit the bill. And Wargames Atlantic's prices are always affordable and their box sets have tons of options, so I'm looking to buy a bunch of these dudes and use them in everything from Warhammer to This Is Not A Test, Stargrave, Space Weirdos and even Zona Alfa as a bunch of raiders.

The moment I saw The Damned were not only getting plastic kits (to replace the older 3d printed versions, which will soon be discontinued), but getting a _full range,_ I fell in love. I was planning on getting WA's "Les Grognards" as my Guard army of choice - some proxy Vostroyan Firstborn - but now I'm sorely tempted to drop a hundred bucks on the crowdfunding campaign for The Damned. Too much watching Darktide playthroughs, I suppose. Made me fall in love with all the Chaos cultists, especially those flavorful elites. The top tier modularity is really what sells them. If all the weapon options they advertise make it into the kit, you can use it to outfit your force with just about everything. Plus, we'll kit plenty of units besides just the infantry. Command, heavy weapons, ogryn, cavalry, artillery, attack dogs, even a TANK if the crowdfunding goes well. We could have a real, honest-to-god plastic replacement for the Leman Russ, at third party prices! No having to spend practically the same amount for resin proxies, or getting into 3d printing. You could just buy them, for cheap!

The "different colors in the same army" idea worked great for Blood Angels and their helmet colors. I also didn't really consider that you could just use them as somewhat beaten up veterans instead of "damned" until you said that. The flat armor plates on the torso, shoulders and forearms would be great for unit markings and decals for a more regimented look.

These guys are awesome! Generic enough to be used for a variety of purposes (can be cultists/traitor guard, or even come from certain loyal regiments, or be just some post-apoc folk) And still, their somewhat old-school design still has a lot of character.

BTW: I notice that in some videos you use different washes. Would you suggest this new Umber Wash from Vallejo as opposed to the 50/50 or marine juice mix?
@SonicSledgehammerStudio
Жыл бұрын
Most of the time it's a 'right tool for the job' kind of answer, so unfortunately there's not an easy way to put it! Umber Wash makes a very good replacement for Agrax without having to thin it, so I've really been enjoying using that. The Marine Juice is a much lighter shade by comparison, so it's not as universally useful, but very good on stuff where you don't want to tint the colours much.

In my opinion, the Wargames Atlantic models don't have the same menacing look of the old Forge World renegade militia. Or the traitor guard form Blackstone fortress. Gas mask heads are, okay. Not a fan of the spiked colander helmets. I believe it as Anvil industries had a similar look with their renegade range? Anyway, other than the heads, I think they look great and this kit has a lot of potential.

So I am thinking post apocalyptic any story or game. So generic. Couldn't tell if weapons were sci-fi style so would possibly kit bash 21st century weapons. Now what was that universal soldier movie spin off.... that's the vibe.
