That is amazing and I love the sound they make and the old book smell of the antique ones, so awesome. I have funny little switches on the front of mine but I can't figure out what they are for. One is vertical with a black dot, silver dot, and red dot. The other is vertical with numbers 6 through 0 on it... any idea? anyone?
@Darkotek852
7 жыл бұрын
I have no clue for the vertical switch which is numbered. As for the three coloured dot switch, it is in fact to position the ribbon to the colour that you want to type in. For example: I have a ribbon that is split in two colours (which is sort of a standard by the way) it's half black on the upper part and half red on the lower part, switching to the black dot will make you type with the upper part of the ribbon and switching it for the red dot will make you write with the lower part. There are of course many variations of ribbons out there. You can find some that are plain black( which will make you write in black either way), some that are green on the upper part and yellow on the lower part and so on. As for the white dot or silver dot (the one in the middle), it is a special mode called stencil which is useful for correcting mistakes : it uses neither parts of the ribbon so that you can place a correction paper between your draft and your character hammers in order for you to type the same character over your mistake and it will make your desired character "disappear" from the sheet of paper your were working on.

This is amazing!!!! Thanks for sharing... For those who were born in year 2000 you might be wondering how did people in those days delete the errors.. Lol.. There are 2 ways : 1) take the paper out.. Make a ball.. And slam dunk into the bin! 2) use Liquid Paper.. This is how liquid paper appears in the market.. To correct the typewriter errors.. Not pen!!!! So..please appreciate the good old times when the typewriter has no backspace, delete, alt tab, ctrl, etc but they do have shift, return button, and bell sounds!!! Without typewriter, there will be no keyboard as we use today! Appreciate the past, as it brings you tomorrow..

@cg0825

I tried typing on one of these once and though I learned how to type on a typewriter and not a computer, it was an electric typewriter so I learned "touch typing". On these old machines you had to hit the keys with force as there were arms that had the letters imprinted that would come up and strike a ribbon which would then imprint on paper. Every now and then you still see one of these floating around especially at yard sales or the thrift shops.
@proletariennenaturiste

I hit computer and phone keys quite hard, but especially so with computers, people always complain about how loud and forceful I hit the keys, even though, I haven't used, until recently, a typewriter, and I don't currently possess one myself but am hoping to get the one I found tomorrow. I just always typed heavy, so my fingers are just right for a typewriter.

Tamil typing is very hard. For a single letter you have to use many keys. But continuous practice will give good results. Keep practicing. 👍👍✌✌
