This camera is located at the rear of the car, adjacent to the parachute bays. The salt kicked up by the rear tires obscures the lens relatively quickly, but it does capture the sound of the engines better than any of the internal cockpit cameras. This run clearly didn’t go as planned, but we thought we’d post the video for reference purposes.
Background: Danny Thompson's Challenger 2 laid down a 435.735mph one-way pass on the opening day of the SCTA's 2017 Speed Week event (Saturday, August 12th) at the Bonneville salt flats. The unsuccessful run shown here, which took place on Sunday, August 13th, was the “backup” pass necessary to certify the AA/FS record. More information available at: thompsonlsr.com
