I just finished Tomorrow x3 and had mixed feelings, which was frustrating since I had heard such good things from people I know both irl and online. You were able to articulate a lot of my feelings and I found the ending to be disappointing, especially since part IX was so fascinating and well done. I also really liked the Both Sides part but then not having them be able to work through/past their assumptions and communication gaps made everything just fall a little flat.

I had the same issue in Tomorrow 3x! I really wanted to see more of the thing that drew them together. I wanted to love their friendship and it just fell flat for me.

I would've loved loved this if we had seen more highs for their friendships. Like if you really got the sense that their friendship and collaboration was one of a kind and so it made the sadness of it falling apart even more poignant. Like, it still got to me emotionally, but there was something left to be desired.

If agreeing with Kate Daniels is wrong then I don't want to be right. 😉 Still a little giddy about the novella announcement. I had a huge problem-Sweep of the Heart (great, btw) had just recently been released and I've already read it so I was like I need more...whew that was a close one. 🤣 I'm glad you read Tomorrow x3. As soon as you started comparing it to Normal People (which I hated and DNF'D) I said thank you now I can pass on that. Your 🐶 is adorable. Looks like he gets into a lot of mischief too. 😍

I’m nervous to try Tomorrow x3 now…I really dislike Normal People AND books that are overwhelmingly sad or negative with no bright spots…but it’s sitting on my shelf so I probably will try it at some point.

I came back to this review after reading Tomorrowx3 and this is why I love your reviews. You were able to articulate the feelings I was having about the book so well. I was engaged with the story and was invested in the characters, but something felt off and I think it's the imbalance of the friendship between Sam and Sadie that you explained so well. I also hated part VII because it's one of the most obvious emotionally manipulative sections of fiction I read this year and kind of resented the author for shoehorning in an extremely unlikely scenario. I honestly felt nothing because it felt so inorganic to the story. I think the book is good, but like you I have complicated feelings lol.

I LOVE listening to you describe your unequivocal support of Kate and it makes me even more excited to start the series I get so annoyed when authors overdo it on the laughing descriptions!! I remember hearing/reading something like 'if your characters laugh, then your reader doesn't' and I think about it a lot because almost all of the times I've actually laughed out loud while reading have been at something where I wasn't informed that the characters were laughing

I really liked Love On The Brain but I've been wondering (since I finished it tbh) if my enjoyment of it hinges completely on the fact that I annotated it and not for any merit of the book. Sometimes I feel like I would have liked it way less if I wasn't annotating it which makes me wonder if for me to like a book I have to annotate it because I've since realized that most of my favourite books of the year where books that I actively decided to annotate but to annotate I need to buy physical books and I don't have that kind of money. As for the Kate Daniels series I have discovered it this year and I fell in love with it so much, it brought me back to teenage me and it was so bittersweet. I have only finished until book four so far though because I needed a break since I read those four books back to back in like a week but I will continue and finish the series one day, I know I will! Probably in the next few years though.

I ate up Tomorrow x3 but I can see in hindsight what you mean about there needing to be more positives in their relationship. I also felt a sort of dread throughout the novel but I also loved the complexities of relationships it showed. I kind of took away from it this feeling that sometimes even when people care for someone they fall into this trap of seeing them as this one concrete person. Especially when there are unresolved feelings of animosity. Because you're frustrated you can't peel back the layers and truly feel empathy, see them for who they are now. We also all have our own way of interpreting actions. What seems perfectly reasonable to one person feels over the top to another. Anyway, I was definitely bothered by how often Sadie would fall into patterns of seeing Sam as this master manipulator 😑. And I would have loved seeing them happy more often

Yeah I agree with you on Zevin creating an intimate world and there was times that I had to take breaks when Sam was stressing me out and I think it might because I've been dealing with some chronic pain and was frustrated at not understanding where he was coming from because we get so much more from Sadie. I legit put the book down instead of finishing it after what happened to Marx bc agh. And the communication that would have helped the story get along would've been interesting to see the turns the story would have taken. The ending felt abrupt to me at first and after sitting with it for the last 2 days since finishing it I'm like hmm okay complex friendship and just comparing this to Fiona and Jane which I read earlier in the year is a totally different experience and still about a complex friendship that I feel is done really well.

I loved your reactions to Magic Binds, I do think the wedding preparations add some great comedy. It makes this book one of my favorite in the serie. I hope you'll have time for Magic Triumphs before the end of the year. Are you planning on reading Iron and Magic before that or not?

Charles Bingley! Alright, real comment. I've been so curious about what your Tomorrow x3 thoughts would be as we approach the end of the year and it seems to be hitting its buzzy peak. Thank you for sharing in such detail! Also I feel validated in thinking this year's GR romance category was particularly blah.

I read Tomorrow x3 back in July and this book still hits heavy in my feelings. Marx was a huge stand out character for me and the video game parts were so damn cool, I want to play Ichigo so bad😭 I felt the same way about The Storied of AJ Fikry Gabrielle Zevin has a way of writing character based stories that have me in a choke hold. Also The NPC chapter destroyed me 😭

I just finished Tricia Levenseller's Blade of Secrets, a book that I would describe as a not so cozy cozy fantasy, the stakes are high and there is violence, but also the book doesn’t take itself too serious and there is a strong romance subplot that is quite cute, I think is the perfect read for a reading challenge. I know the author wrote a romance book that became really famous on Tik Tok, and that one I will probably never touch, just the synopsis made me cringe, but this one is really good and I would highly recommend it 🙂

I also felt emotionally manipulated by tomorrow and I wished we'd gotten to see more positive sides of the friendship and had a more in depth understanding of the female Mc. She was a more frustrating character because we just saw her messy actions whereas we understood more why the male Mc behaved the way he did. Also the conversation that is derived from her relationship with her prof was so surface level.

I am also trying to read all of the goodreads choice awards romance nominees and I am also feeling lukewarm/hating most of them. Which is super disappointing because my first three reads for this were solid 4.5-5 stars for me :( I gave myself permission to omit two books though, and I chose both Colleen Hoovers lol.
