Spey casting gets its name from the river Spey in Scotland but is based on an older form of fly fishing called the Welsh Throw, both designed to provide maximum distance for casting flies on wide rivers. While not all Oregon coastal rivers are similar to the river Spey or built for Spey casting, the style is popular among some anglers, like @kayla__lockhart and her husband @kcbadger, who love to swing flies for winter steelhead in the winter along Oregon’s North Coast.
Editor’s Note: No steelhead were harmed during the making of this video, but if you like watching people cast Spey rods in slow motion, this video is for you.
