It can be harsh to push the truth on the face of the fanatics, but the truth is that the casting-type reels are better ONLY if you fish on boat for the big fish (in which the launching phase is not essential, it is mainly or only the movement of the boat that moves and leads the bait ) or the fishing competitions in the lakes. In fact, the advantages of the casting-type reel are: 1) the ability to ruin the wire less with the passing of time (durability), since the line does not undergo a twist after it exits and this is useful in case of long fights against the big fish; 2) the launch phase is much faster, since you do not have to raise the bow, this is very useful in competitions in the lakes, where the fish are more "grouped" compared to the vast sea and where there is a time limit and we must hurry to hope for better results, especially if the ranking is based on the quantity of a species of fish caught. IN ALL THE OTHER fishing techniques the spinning-type reel is better than the casting-type reel. The idea that the casting-type reel allows a greater range is a colossal lie based on the idea (wire comes out completely straight parallel to the rod = less resistance from the rings of the rod = greater throw) created hoping to convince people to buy it for each technique practiced, thus increasing the number of customers. This idea is true, but there are factors that have much more importance: the line in the casting-type reel, since the reel rotates, undergoes more frictional forces than the line in the spinning-type reel, which line is essentially free in the launch phase with the raised bow, moreover in the spinning-type reel, since the reel does not rotate, the line inevitably comes out much more stable and you know, stability is essential for a greater throw, it is worth a reel, worth a gun, it applies to any instrument that launches something. The spinning-type reel therefore has a greater range than the casting-type reel (obviously considering the same capacity and quality of the reel), not by chance it is the type most used by those who practice surfcasting, which need long throws. Another advantage of the spinning-type reel is the reliability, since it hardly generates tangles. It is true that the fisherman's ability can reduce the chances of this happening, but this is not a certainty, in the sense that as long as the throws are short, the fisherman's ability can always prevent the tangles, but when it comes to medium-long or long throws we come into forces the fisherman can never completely control, the speed of the thrown line is high .. with a casting-type reel the line could have a tangle while turning regardless of how the fisherman has made the launch, not to mention what can happen during the fight against a strong fish that continuously changes direction and subtract the line (especially if you use lines of nylon or similar materials, if you use the cable steel for big fish, the risk is lower). About the accuracy of launch there is little to say, it depends entirely on the fisherman, some feels more comfortable with the spinning-type, some others feels more comfortable with the casting-type. IN ANY CASE, the most important things are the quality of the reel and the skills of the angler, a good reel is always better than a low quality reel regardless of type, as a good thrower and a bad thrower can make a difference in positive and in negative. The wide use of the casting-type reel reel in the united states stays in the fact that not everyone can afford to fish in the ocean for the big fish, so some silly american guys try to feel gratified by fishing with a reel of the same type as the one used for fishing in the ocean at big fish, fantasizing and imagining to have each time a "monster", a "giant" in fight, you can easily find in internet some american paranoids who define "monster" every fish they catch, even if they catch a fish half a meter long and the maximum length of that species is 1 meter, same situation is about weight. From this a myth was born, as futile as all the other american myths. The fanatics of casting-type reel that snub other fishermen, those are just frustrated people living on myths and as losers they try to throw a shadow over other fishermen trying in vain to remedy their dissatisfaction, instead of thinking about the best way to fish for the type of fishing they practice. In short, if you practice fishing from the boat or compete in the lakes it is better to buy a casting-type reel, if you practice other types of fishing it is better to buy a spinning-type reel. Then, if the passion pushes you to explore both the ways, it is welcome, we do not have to put limits on ourselves necessarily. The comment was long, but if I want to do something, I want to do it well. I hope I have cleared the issue for all those who had doubts about. I do not care about various fanatics' words, whatever side they belong to, so I do not read possible answers or private messages wherever they are written.
