I was spearfishing at Chesil Cove when I came across a European spiny lobster (Palinurus elephas) also known as crayfish/crawfish.
It may surprise some of you that we get these exotic looking lobsters in our cold murky waters. They were once common but were largely wiped out from overfishing. This was a small one but they can grow big.
Rarely caught by spearfishers in the UK, they often live in deeper water than most spearos can dive.
It was really interesting to have a close look at one whilst it was alive and hear the sound they make. This one went back unharmed.
When I went to release the lobster I spooked a bass. I hadn't done a breathe up and the fish was off so I didn't manage to find it again!
