This video series should be suggested to DM's as frequently as Matt Colville's running the game. Running the game is very high level, philosophical advice, where as this is extremely applicable and approachable. I can usually take something from one of these videos and use it in my next game.

Exactly! Mike & Zipperon Disney are the best D&D channels on KZitem, in my opinion.

Really helpful for focusing on what matters in a campaign! Also, I'm amazed by the quests, locations, and starting truths Mike comes up with on the fly. They sound so cool and remind me that I can go wild with my ideas!

Wonderful as always, I'm in the middle of homebrewing a modern day Utah D&D campaign and will be using this approach pretty extensively.

I think this has helped me more than anything else you've said so far. Preparing a session comes quite easy for me (most of the time) but when planing ahead for an adventure or campaign I tend to overthink things I will probably never use. Thank you!

I'm relatively new to D&D and fantasy, and I must say this Cult of the Black Moon is giving me the most best vibes. Is this a published adventure, a homebrew campaign, or just something Mike made up on the fly? I think the world needs to defeat some nihilists so I need to run this adventure (or write it if necessary).

Pretty sure Mike just made it up: it has cultists.

Your description of the Dark Moon campaign sounds like a veiled description of Grendleroot. I might have started that campaign differently if I had seen this months ago. Not to say I can't slip some of those ideas into the campaign now.

Off topic but I was wondering if you had seen Giffyglyph's Darker Dungeons? Modular mechanics for 5e originally created to offer grittier gameplay but has expanded to include things like encumbrance, ammo tracking, and even a monster builder. Some great ideas that remind me of some of your stuff.

@@SlyFlourish I'd be particularly interested to know what you think of the monster builder. I like it because I can start with "what monsters do I want, and what can they do?" and then I can figure out what would make an "easy" or "hard" challenge for my players. It's especially helpful because as a new-ish DM I may have an idea of what I want the encounter to look like, but I don't know all of the monsters in the monster manual yet. I might say "I want a giant insect whose droning echoes off the cave walls so it's hard to pin point where it is. It is pretty fragile, but it's stealthy and can jump out and deliver a vicious bite with a continuing poison." Does such a creature exist, or can I find a creature to reflavour like this in the MM? Maybe! But with Giffygliph's process I can just start with the idea and figure out what stats would make this a fun challenge for my players.

Thanks for the tip! I`ve tried to do something like Dimension 20 fantasy high but couldn`t and will use this approach for our games. By the way, any updates on projects from Kickstarter that you think is worth getting a copy of?

Hi Mike, I was wondering if you have any advice for using this method for example continuing a campaign after the party has completed Dragons of Stormwreck isle. I understand it but am struggling a bit with the concept of I guess carrying on as level 4 and beyond characters moving into homebrew. If anyone else has any advice that'd be awesome!

Anyone have experience using the spiral approach for a campaign starting at Tier 2 (5-10th level)? I don't want to get sucked into the quagmire of too much worldbuilding, but higher level characters have more history and regional renown, and are also able to travel much further. How do I make them feel established in a world that I am sort of just filling in as I go?

That's a good question! The scope and scale at that level is definitely bigger.
