I never knew how to calculate the airport cost BUT I always buy my tix @ the counter. I spend $2-$4 parking and save at least $30-$40 (and more depending on destination) for my trips.... Example- Orlando to Vegas was $200+ online, I paid $74 @ the counter....

It varies airport to airport but we usually save anywhere from $10 to $23 a person, one way by booking at the airport. Dont pay for your bags at the airport. Add them online later. It costs slightly more but we save more booking tickets at the airport and then adding a bag later. I have not flown internationally with them! How was it? Just a basic no frills, get you from point a to point b kinda flight I’m guessing?

@@breakawayonabudget I’ll let you know we fly out in May (I booked before I watched your tip’s video otherwise I would have waited lol). It was the lowest price we have ever paid for airfare to Cancun, so I got anxious. We have zero expectations other than getting there safely & on time, so fingers crossed all goes well🤞😬 So if I buy the tickets at the airport, and I know ahead of time that I will be bringing a checked bag, does it cost more than $33 per checked bag (per way) when you buy your ticket in person at the airport? I know it’s outrageous to pay for checked bag at the airport on the day of flight, but didn’t think that would be the case if it was done when the ticket was originated🤔
@breakawayonabudget
2 жыл бұрын
I look forward to hearing about it! It’s confusing with bags. If you go to the airport and book airfare then you are going to pay “at the airport/reservation counter” baggage fees. If you book at the airport then add bags after, you pay the “ before you check in” baggage fees. If you book online and book bags at the same time, this is the cheapest your bags will cost. It’s all a math game with spirit unfortunately. For example. We just book a one way trip flight for $19 a person at the airport. If we added a carryon bag while we were at the airport booking the trip it would be an extra $69. Booking the flight at the airport but adding a carryon before we check in 24 hours in advance, the flight price is the same $19 one way but the carryon will be $54. If I booked airfare at the airport, but forgot to add a bag until I was checking into the flight, the carryon would be $59. Let’s say I booked online and didn’t save money by booking at the airport. I would pay $73 for the one way airfare. The carryon would be the cheapest at $44. Example 1- $88 total Example 2- $73 total Example 3- $78 total Example 4- $117 total So as you can see even though I’m paying more for a bag, it’s cheapest to book airfare at the airport and add a bag on before we check into our flight. Confused yet? 😂

We had friends tell us to book at the airport for cheaper airfare. I’m a numbers person so I hate to know how much exactly we were saving! It’s a good option if you can do a couple hours parking and you are taking other people with you on the flight! I know in Pgh we just park in the long term parking and hoof it in for $8. Latrobe has free parking which is amazing! Definitely have to do your math to see if it would work out or just be a hassle.

It depends on your airport! You can google “spirit airlines ticketing counter hours” and see what hours your airports ticketing is open. My local airport in Latrobe, PA is open Monday - Saturday 9am -3pm. Having the ticket price increase is just a chance you take. I’ve only had that happen one time in the many times I’ve went to the airport. It only increased by $20 luckily. I check the prices everyday to see if it’s a good enough price to drive and book. I honestly would not recommend doing it the day of travel. Unless you are booking a separate trip when you are leaving. Most of my flights have been fully booked days before departure. In some instances its simple not feasible or worth it to book at the airport, and that's okay! I would figure out the amount you would save booking at the airport. If its closer to $100, I usually will drive the hour to our airport and book. If it's a savings below $100 I wont book it at the airport unless I'm in the area. It always hurts paying full price online, but you have to make sure your time and energy researching the flights, getting to the airport, waiting in line, booking and driving back home are worth the savings. Hope that helps!

@MannySimoneCards it honestly depends on your airport. We fly from Latrobe, PA which is a tiny little local airport. I always go in between flights. If they have a lot of people checking bags they pull the ticket sales workers to help check bags. Be sure to google “spirit airlines ticket counter hours” for your airports ticket sales hours. If you are at a larger airport I would think early or later in the day would be better. Also make sure you factor in the cost for parking and gas to get to/from the airport to make sure it’s worth it. For our little airport parking is free for less than 24 hours. Hope that all helps!

Hi there! If you are not going to be in the travel party, the cheapest way to book is online at spirits website. I like to book about 6 weeks before my flight. I find thats usually the cheapest airfare, but always be watching. If you are in the travelling party, the cheapest way is to book at the airport if you live near one. Keep in mind the cost of gas and parking to see if booking at the airport is actually the cheapest way to go. If you are bringing luggage other than a personal item, that may negate the savings at the airport as its cheaper to book luggage online while booking your ticket. Thanks for watching!
