Bryan, I remember when I was on the Campus of CU-Boulder in 2000, I went to FUEL, aka (or fka) ‘Campus Crusade for Christ’ they had a propaganda that dovetailed off the whole Cassie Bernall (of Columbine martyrdom fame), it was a gal named Rachel who had T-Shirts made that said “I agree with Rachel” which was basically a relevant draw for the Apostle’s Creed. Oh yes! I remember this well. And a lot of the Mainline Denominations and neo-Evangelical Churches were using segue tracts and modes of translating or rather transliterating the hard blows of the Law and the blatant claims of the Gospel. Frankly, it is a strange irony in my life as I remember having a conversation with the Elderly Pastor of the LCMS-Church in Boulder who was quite intrigued by Calvary Chapel (where a I was involved with at the time)....and Oh! How the tables have turned! I am grateful to have found the LCMS and such a great Church in Albuquerque. Praise the Lamb.

Another GREAT message Pastor!! On a topic response I've heard a lot of while witnessing to others. Another bad response from people on the beaches and streets is the NONES or they say the convenient "I'm Agnostic" which can be turned around takes a lot of shooting holes in the Darwin theories. Another one I hear is "I'm a GOOD PERSON God won't send me to hell, God is Love".

Hello Pastor Wolfmueller, LOVE your KZitem content, please keep it coming. I had a few thoughts/questions that I was hoping you could address through a KZitem viseo. 1. In the service of Compline there is a section about commending our spirit to God. Would you please explain similarities/differences to the idea of "giving our heart to God", which American Evangelism usually deals with. Note: Jesus commits His spirit to God. Is this act similar or different? 2. Devotional life is extremely important for a household/family. Prayer, teaching (catechism), God's Word, singing hymns, etc. Do you have any opinions on having a home altar? What are pros/cons? Things to be careful about such as not going to church, but instead staying at home because of home altar. Thank you for taking the time to look into this and I would love to give more info or clarify what I said. May God's grace and peace be with you through Jesus Christ, our Lord, Redhulk

Steve Rentfrow: Thank you so much for your comment. As an LCMS pastor I share your position. However, I'm afraid that the LCMS is more interested today in numbers and being "culturally relevant" that it is ignoring that truth which we (and the church catholic) have always confessed "Lex orandi, lex credendi", (what & how you pray or worship implies what you believe or as you believe so you worship). It is my conviction that many pastors in the LCMS and among the district and synodical leadership no longer believe in the doctrine of election, (i.e., "grace alone"). Of course, they all confess it, but their practice displays another belief. If you truly believe in the doctrine of election then, as a pastor, you will remain grounded in trusting in the "means of grace" to bring about God's will. We in the LCMS are giving up our foundational belief that God has NOT called us to produce, but be faithful and trust in Him to bring about His will. Whether we grow or shrink is NOT our concern (contrary to ALL modern marketing models). The first president of the LCMS, C.F.W. Walther addressed this very issue in his closing words of his sermon at the first synodical convention. ““Whether our Synod gains friends or makes enemies, wins honor or invites disgrace, grows or declines in numbers, brings peace or incites enmity, all this must be unimportant to us--just so our Synod may keep the jewel of purity of doctrine and knowledge. However, should our Synod ever grow indifferent toward purity of doctrine, through ingratitude forget this prize, or betray or barter it away to the false church, then let our church body perish and the name ‘Missourian’ decay in disgrace.” Soli Deo Gloria = All glory to God alone.

3 scriptures. "He who believes in Me shall not be stumbling in the darkness for the Light of Life will FLOOD his path", St.Paul said the SPIRIT will tell you where to GO and what to DO, and, "in all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths". Sounds like God likes giving pretty specific directions to me. AND rightly so for we simply can't know and He DOES!!!

Hey, Pastor. Thanks for addressing these terms. Interestingly, I just read a news article of the newly-released 'Mary Magdalene' movie, where the actor playing Jesus (Joaquin Phoenix) said that he "wasn't raised Christian but considers himself 'spiritual'" (www.usatoday.com/story/life/movies/2019/04/10/joaquin-phoenix-jesus-movie-depicts-mary-magdalene-as-feminist/3394297002/) Besides other societal celebrities claiming a spiritual belief, I also hear this among my friends, many who are former Mormons who recently left that religion. Your video is a very timely insight in to this often claimed status among people. In my early twenties I used to say, "I'm spiritual, not religious", when my family would ask why I didn't go to church. Now, being older and a bit wiser, I realize I was in total rebellion against God during those times. I tended to lump all of my personal frustations, (mis-) understanding of the church (the entire body of Christ, not a specific church) and organized religion together, and thus, became "spiritual". Looking back, I see that didn't want God's condemnation for the actions of my life, so being "spiritual" was a way to avoid living by God's rules and also a means of avoiding God's judgement. As you mentioned, being spiritual meant I could "stand as self-justified", making "an argument for my own righteousness" (at 11:54-ish). How foolish I was! I was blinded by my ideology of spirituality, for God will bring His judgement to all one day, regardless of one's spiritualness. I am thankful the Lord's leading me back to the body of Christ, for allowing me to see that without God, being "spritual" or "reglious" is an empty existence for me, both now and for all eternity. I shudder at the the thought of being separted eternally from our glorious God. Pastor, thanks for the great videos, Wednesdays What-Nots, blogs and your "Table Talk Radio" show. I learn much from your work. Also, the humor found in all your forums is enjoyed, for it keeps me focused on the lesson at hand (i.e., the use of high-tech notecards in your video, your games on Table Talk Radio, calling a certain pastor "tiny Zach Lesher"...haha!), to name a few. Keep up the wonderful work in the name of Jesus. You are a blessing to the masses. BTW, congrats on your selection as pastor in Austin! May the Lord be with you as you and your family transition from one community to another. God bless. PS: I have some theological questions for you. Which one of your media sources is best to bring up such questions? Just curious. Thanks again, Pastor. :-)

I do not think that you need any religious texts to be religious, they may help to avoid confusion on what the religion might actually believe but given the number of dominations and the wide range of differing beliefs that exist in Christianity and the wildly differing opinions among Christians that does not seem to hold true. I think that you may be wrong about the spiritual being a belief in a higher power and religion being the belief in a god statement, surely Theravada Buddhism is a religion that does not believe in a god for example? Being spiritual I think tends to mean that people are concerned about their soul which does not necessarily mean a belief in a higher power, of course, if the person has identified a belief in a soul then that would indicate that they believe in something on faith which may well indicate that they could be religious even if they do not identify as such. Can you provide the evidence to back up that most people who identify as nones will have a belief in an afterlife? In my personal experience what people believe in what occurs after your dead totally depends on their actual belief system the only atheist that I have ever encountered that had a belief in any sort of afterlife was a Buddhist, I have never encountered a none religious atheist that believed in an afterlife of any sort through and someone who identifies themselves as being spiritual are likely believing in a soul or a consciousness that is independent of the human body so they may well believe that such a thing is eternal or gets reincarnated. "No one can look on the face of God and live" That is not consistent with what occurs in the Bible.

Blind Truth: I do not intend this in any pejorative manner, however, you are making the same mistake which one of the main reasons (there are, of course, others) why there are so many different "interpretations" of God Word and therefore denominations. Your quoting of Ex. 33:20 is entirely out of context. You have no idea of what the text means when it refers to "God's face." The Septuagint (which is what the people of Jesus' day referred to) when it speaks of "God's face" uses the phrase τὁ πρόσωπον ("the face of me") that does not at all necessarily refer to one's physical face. In this case it refers to God's essence, His substance. One cannot see God according to His actual presence and live. That is why we will see God solely and alone in the person of Jesus Christ, the second-person of the Trinity for only He took on flesh and became man. The language in this text is entirely consistent with the rest of Holy Scripture. Though you are likely doing so without knowing, you are speaking in ignorance (no offense intended). This is, in my estimation, one of the major reason for so much false teaching. Each individual attempts to explain God's Word without any knowledge of the rules of interpretation which have been in place from the beginning, then ignored by Rome in its later period (9th - 16th centuries, and through today), but brought back in the Lutheran Reformation. As far as the whole "spiritual" versus "religious" I have a different view of this than Pastor Wolfmueller (I grew up in Japan), but his theology is dead-on. One can explain these terms differently, without altering the truth being presented. Pax.
