Today we're taking the Spitfire Mk.IX up for an evening aerobatic routine in DCS. It's been a while since I did a video in DCS, but I played it a bit more over the last few weeks and it was just to much fun not to share. I hope you'll enjoy the video. Like always the video includes everything from startup to shutdown + a ground / "spectator" view at the end, which is why the video is quite long. There are however time stamps, so you can skip around.
The DCS Spitfire is not the easiest aircraft to fly and must be flown with minimal control inputs, especially in pitch. There are ways to play around with the joystick dead zones in your settings, but I prefer using the standard settings, as the real Spitfire is famous for needing very little control input and basically flying in the direction you're looking.
With a bit of practice, the Spitfire has become one of my, if not my favorite aircraft in DCS. I've only got about 4,5 hours in it so far, but that number will grow rapidly over the next weeks, I'm sure.
I intended to compare it with Flying Irons Spitfire Mk.IX (MSFS), but that turns out to be more difficult than I thought. I would say for the most part they are on par, both are fantastic and probably my favorite aircraft of the respective sim. In the end I'm happy to have both. If you need an excuse to own both, they are actually two different versions of the Mk.IX, the DCS one is an mid production one (most noticeable visual difference: rounded rudder top and round head rivets at the aft fuselage section) and Flying Irons one is a late production Mk.IX (most noticeable visual difference: pointy rudder top and flush rivets at the aft fuselage section).
The one aspect where the DCS Spitfire is clearly in front are the sounds. Even though the Flying Iron Spitfire has one of the best sound sets in MSFS the DCS one is 100 % perfect. It sounds exactly like the real deal both on the in- and outside.
I hope you enjoy this video and I would love to hear if you'd like to see more DCS videos. I'm thinking about doing videos with the P-47, Fw-190A and Mosquito.
