Riptide is a fantastic bot. Love to see them against End Game, Minotaur, Witch Doctor or Cobalt. Not sure the fights would be long but the collisions would be nuts. As for the drama, I'll leave that for all the soap opera fans bellyaching about the current "villain". As an old Bite Force and Tombstone fan, I love seeing well-made and well-driven powerful bots do their thing.

I think the "heat" started with the unsportsman behavior against Shredderator. At least that's when I noticed they're a little too enthusiastic and competitive. I noticed the look in his eye and the tone of his winner voice is the same when I was a kid cheating in monopoly to get ahead, with a bit of sore loser mixed in. Whether or not the team is that way, they seem to leave that impression on people. They're a relatively new team and bot on the block and don't seem interested in making friends or keeping people separate from competition so drama is bound to happen in a combat sport. That said, I'll watch the bot regardless and continue to be impressed with the heavy shots and carnage I watch Battlebots for.

Super competitive, and he likes to tease and stir too, but underneath there is always much respect and goodwill. The Shredderator situation would have been different if the ref started counting when it was clear CS was done. As with boxing, some fighters need to be supervised more closely than others. I like to think the refs will realise that Riptide can need some extra supervision. Agree about the heavy shots. Seeing those monster machines flying in the air or hurtling across the box is always a buzz.

So done with rip tide. Like I don't even care if what they were doing helped them at all. To me I doubt whatever they did swayed the fight think they win either way. It's just the principle that drives me insane. They broke a rule clear as day and don't give me this so called BS excuse I see the team supposedly float around that all they were doing was duct taping a crowbar to the front to make it look like they had a hammer and then take it off before the fight. As you don't magically lose 2 pounds of weight by trying to add a cosmetic feature your going to take off. What drove me insane was them acting like they had no idea how the bot weighed less. And even more so was Ethan then trying to act like he was the victim and had a right to be upset when his team broke the rule and BB and Shatter were just doing what was necessary to make sure rip tide wasn't overweight after they worked on the bot and make sure the past safety check. Yet Ethan acts like Shatter was doing it to mess with them. Off boo hoo you had to wait a few minutes to fight how is that massively gonna effect you. I mean Shatter could have been much worse could have refused the fight and asked for rip tide to be DQ for breaking a rule. And the icing on the cake was Ethan then calling out Adam and who knows he could have said a lot more worse things as you could see how heavily edited the interview with Ethan was.

Yea the last thing I want to see is them win the Nut so that they can be even more annoying and cocky which will probably lead to them having worse attitudes and causing more anger. Seeing tons of people thinking that they are unbeatable but to me that isn't the case. As they have yet to face another true top tier. I mean don't get me wrong Mad Catter and Black Dragon are very good bots but I put them both a tier below the very top. As neither team has the best ground game nor do they have top tier weapons. So waiting for them to take on like a Endgame, Minotaur, Witch Doctor, Sawblaze, Huge, Cobalt or Hydra. As could see Witch Doctor out driving them and we have no clue if rip tide can take a hit to the sides or back. Minotaur I could see winning weapon to weapon hits against them due to the drum being lower. Endgame and Cobalt I could see the the ground game mixed with their nasty weapons giving them the upperhand. Huge is just a meta killer and if their weapon can outlast rip tide they will win I know rip tide beat Huge last season but Huge struggled that season and rip tide won because Huge got stuck. If you watch the fight back the first hit in that fight completely cracks rip tides weapon down the middle and kills it from spinning as well. Huge weapon was still running just they were caught between the screws and couldn't get out. And then Hydra I could see winning just by having the low ground giving rip tide nothing to hit and Hydra flipping them and having rip tide's own weapon destroy themselves by landing on it.

Let's make one thing clear, I don't support Riptide team's behaviour. Now for Shatter, when your chances of winning are that slim, you'll try your best to avoid the inevitable, that's why the woman (Adam's wife?) stormed in and out, a desperate attempt to make sure Riptide don't cheat. It's a part of the hype and drama, it's stimulating some of the audience.

This was exactly my first reaction, but honestly the more I think about it, the more I think team Shatter made the right choice here. Team Riptide went through safety and functionality tests, weigh-in, and then between weigh-in and entering the arena altered their config for 2 lbs without informing the officials and with no explanation given. Even if it was an honest mistake and they weren't cheating (which seems to be exactly the case here), those actions definitely warranted suspicion.
@melodywave3
Жыл бұрын
I agree, as we saw with hypershock. they took weight off to make their robot more maneuverable in the arena. taking "something" off (i'll assume for simplicity they were forks) and exchanging parts last minute AFTER approvals is absolutely sus as many things can completely alter your ability to drive strategically in an arena with a steel floor (which is also battle damaged and has killsaw slots). we have seen wedge and fork configurations in ground game attempts bite back against the driver by peeling the paint off the floor from being too sharp in previous matches. EVEN THEN: let's consider that from the perspective of the other team: you could be doing anything at point (adding top plate armor, adding or removing forks, adding or removing magnets, etc) if youre huddling around in the tunnel with a bunch of hand tools and bot parts on the ground. The conduct Team Riptide displayed is completly devoid of sportmanship or spirit

@@billyevans4929 Well, it's possible that they were breaking Rule 5.6.1, which specifically states that if a robot is modified subsequently to weigh-in, that team must request that the modification be inspected and approved by a Safety/Tech inspector to determine if that robot needs to undergo new functional testing. What Team Shatter did was exercise their "Right to Request", which is defined under 5.6.2. It was very unsportsmanlike of Ethan to call them out for following the rules.

People think rip tide is unbeatable yet I'm sitting here thinking umm they have yet to face a true top tier bot. Yes Mad Catter and Black Dragon are two very good bots. But I can't put them on the top tier seeing how both don't have great ground games and neither have top end weapons sure both have very good weapons but can't put them on the level of others. To me I could easily see rip tide losing to at least one of seven different upper tier bots. Those being Minotaur, Sawblaze, Cobalt, Witch Doctor, Hydra, Huge and Endgame. For a number of reasons. With Witch Doctor not sure they could go weapon to weapon but I could easily see Witch Doctor out driving them and hitting them on the side or back and we have no clue how well rip tide can take a hit. Sawblaze I could see winning much like they did last season by the ground game giving them nothing to bit into and it instead sending rip tide flying. Hydra would be all about the ground game as long as they keep the front pointed at rip tide then their weapon isn't hitting anything and could see Hydra destroying rip tide by flipping them and having rip tides weapon destroy their own bot by having it hit the floor after being sent 7ft in the air. Then Minotaur would be maybe their weapon being lower meaning they are getting the drum under rip tides egg beater or just out lasting them with durability. Cobalt and Endgame I see having the same advantage which is easily having the better ground game meaning they can easily get under rip tide and have their weapons do the work after. And last Huge is just a meta breaker who lives to beat vertical spinners. I know people will say but rip tide beat them last year. But that was a Huge that was struggling to win fights. And if you watch the fight back the first weapon to weapon hit ends up killing rip tides weapon as well as cracking it in half. Only reason Huge lost is their wheel got stuck between the screws if that didn't happen they win as the weapon was working just fine and would have been hitting a defenseless rip tide.

Hell hundreds of cases of opponents even helping each other out like if the other team needs help with repairs before the fight or needs a part. I remember in robogames Tombstone weapon was completely destroyed with no way of fixing it before the next match against Sewer Snake so the Sewer Snake team ended up giving them one of their big wedges and helped them attach it to the front of Tombstone so that they at least could have a more competitive fight.
