@@LaughingStock_ Well you did wrap up your comment by saying it was just your opinion, but it’s my opinion (and apparently the opinion of many others) that this is a catchy little tune with a bit of hit potential. I wouldn’t go so far as to say “it’s absolute pop genius!”, as the OP said… but I could easily see this one at least cracking the top 40 if properly promoted. It’s no “I Got You”, but it’s a nice warm up to that one at least.

I assume it wasn't on an album? The description reads "Things" by Split Enz. From the single "Things." So, it looks as if it might have been released.
@Shikta-poobah67

@@shawnuel Yes, it was a non-album single released in late ‘79, between the albums “Frenzy” and “True Colours”. On it you can definitely hear the transition from the more art rock/prog-pop style of the former to the more concise new wave pop sound of the latter.
@Shikta-poobah67

Also, I should correct myself in my original comment about the bass. Upon closer examination, I now see that that’s a B.C. Rich that he’s playing in the video, and not a Rickenbacker as I originally said. However that’s clearly a classic trademark Rickenbacker tone in the recording. I’m just shooting in the dark here, but I’m going to guess that the BC Rich is for video purposes only.

@@ShaneScott69 The preferred bass of many an 80’s headbanger. Still, I have a suspicion that the bass we see here in this video is not the same bass that was played on the recording. Unless my ears have gone wonky, that’s clearly the classic Rick-O-Sound I’m hearing in the song. No mistaking that tone. I don’t think a BC Rich is capable of producing such a trademarked tone.

This song is so sweet. Like a strange dream dreamt during an afternoon nap. And that bass tone is simple splendid, specially that slide by the chorus. I never heard a bass tone that delightful.
