For the last like 3 years I have been trying to replicate SpongeBob background paintings. Like exclusively. I think I’ve made 1 or 2 paintings that weren’t based on SpongeBob. I absolutely adore the backgrounds and the style that they are painted in.

0:58 "You should lighten those darks. You should shift the palette to cooler colors, too. In fact, you should just throw away the whole painting and start from scratch. You have disappointed our audience, and you have disappointed me. You have no honor and have brought shame to your bloodline." 2:29 "All of the characters look great here. This is a really nice painting, Calvin. You're perfect. I think you've earned a little smooch." (Jokes aside, he honestly seems like a great boss. His advice to that artist was constructive and polite. That's how professional critique should be.)

2:03 Oh come on, we want those background paintings to be in HD, but i can see them due to the poor quality. But like how the person was doing good on the chrome scenery background painting.

@@NafiurRahmanYT I meant what material their using for paint, watercolor oil or acrylic

@@NaanosVEVO Def not oil or watercolor for the regular backgrounds. I believe it's acrylic gouache. Regular acrylic paints warp paper and are a bit more glossy, unlike acrylic gouache. Maybe they used acrylic sometimes, but idk honestly.

@@dedenneguy_000 thanks for the response. I’m looking into it since I love the brush strokes and artifacts you can see on the backgrounds and how they blend together

@@dedenneguy_000 Amy Lewis, a background artist for Spongebob, confirmed that the backgrounds are usually painted with gouache, and sometimes acrylic, on paper. For season 2 onwards, the paintings are then scanned into the computer and outlines (if needed) are added digitally.
