PS. Rather than use a bit of tape on the spool to balance out the lighter side, a spot of tippex on side of spool can be used, and is easily rubbed off if you put too much on. Stevie

Love that spool loading method. Early in the loading with those broad sweeps, diamond-shaped holes form in the spooled line and they can be built up around the knot. Then, when the line is at the same level as the height of the knot, you can start covering it up. This prevents the problem of a lump forming over the knot as line is wound on, which can lead to the line-related spool imbalance.

im no expert in reel tuning but you could also balance the spool using jb weld epoxy resin. just clean with alcahol and apply a tiny blob of resin then sand down as needed.

If you put tape on your reel and join it with just a one inch overlap round the spool when you spin the spool and it stops the spool should roll back when the join in the tape comes to the top, the reason being the overlap of the tape is the heaviest part on the spool and this will outomaticaly rotate to the bottom as gravity pulls it down being its the heaviest point on the spool, if this happens your spool is perfectly balanced, if it doesn’t roll to the bottom it’s not balanced properly.

Yes it should. Thats why I do 2 complete turns. But its a handy way to check after like you say a 1inch overlap it should roll to that.

Thanks, just tried that , but i think because the spools are heavier than normal casting multipliers it will probably need something heavier, but ive tried everything suggested except the drilling of the spool which im reluctant to do on a brand new reel...i guess they are not of the same quality as my Akios shuttles and Abu's

The old models from Zzeta the vented spools When you drill holes in a akios spools or Abu spool is there possibilty to balance them better or does it go worser then?
@djrmonix

It depends on a lot of things. If.the spool was out of balance to start with drilling it could fix it OR make it much worse. I wouldnt bother drilling a standard spool

Just bought a couple of Penn Fathom 2 cs multipliers. After spool balancing one run smooth...The other the spool i cant balance..it always rocks back to one spot even without line. Tried the tape on the spool etc..spoke to others with same reel and appears some have same problem..seems to be a bit of a lottery. Im reluctant to buy another spool in case it has the same problem..Any other tips please.??

A tip i saw once was to use tip-ex. Spin the spool on the bearings and spindles but not in the reel. When the spool stops and rocks back to the same point each time, put a dot of the tip-ex on the upper side of the spool on the side, just inside the rim. Repeat until the spool comes to a stop gradually without rocking as it stops or surging that last few degrees. Give it a go, might help, it did with my fathoms and the akios shuttles i had before i got the fathoms

@@kf8575 Thanks for info. Managed to balance the Akios Nitrons using the method that you suggested. One of the fathoms i managed ro balance with line lay...i ended up getting a new spool for the other...i did try your tip ex method on the old spool but to no avail..the spool seems to wobble when spun no matter what..heading for the bin...thanks for tip though. It worked a treat on my Nitrons..👍👍👍

As an extreme measure you can take a drill to a spool to remove a heavy side! You dont even have to drill right thru just a bit to remove some material, but of course if you mess it up you will be constantly chasing it.

Not sure I would because its not guaranteed. Some spools just dont balance, and it still requires good line lay after every cast.

The video is aimed towards field Tournament Casting where cm can count, and people take it very very seriously, and every avenue is explored in pursuit of distance and spool balance is one such avenue.Yes I do fish maybe once every other week but I am more into Tourney casting.
