Students will learn about the basic fundamentals and skills necessary in the field of athletic training. Instruction includes: mechanisms & characteristics of musculoskeletal nerve trauma; tissue response to injury for sports injuries and illnesses; psychological intervention; on-the-field acute care & emergency procedures; off-the-field injury evaluation; infectious disease, blood-borne pathogens, & universal precautions; using therapeutic modalities; using therapeutic exercise in rehabilitation; and pharmacology, drugs, & sports. Students will acquire the skills and knowledge to perform the duties and responsibilities of an athletic trainer and other health-care related fields as well. This program provides students with the skills needed to evaluate sport related injuries, gaining an understanding and recognition of the anatomy of the injury, injury assessment, rehabilitation, proper taping techniques, and treatment. Students have access to work directly with athletes on campus after school in the Student Athletic Training Program, developing skills for the workforce through hands-on experiences.
