One video said to put down a base coat first with one of the desired colors. That way, if you miss a section, you still have some nice paint there.

I wondered about that. I'm Pouring cement ashtrays that I plan to hydro dip and I thought that base coating with one of the colors first might camouflage where my fingers hold it during dipping. Glad someone else thought to base coat before dipping.
@airbrushken5339

Actually we did that with Lacquer, gently pour in a tub of water and then gently dip the primered motorcycle tank and side covers creating a marbled textured effect. We usually used three primary colors (red-blue-yellow) and a little white. Finally we would mask the area of marbling we wanted to save and spray a base color (like black) and then shoot candy apple colors over the marble base... They hadn't invented dip tank art yet. ;)

Dude I've never seen this done before nor have I done it myself, but my logic tells me that instead of holding the skill from the back end of it u should of held it from its inner under center. As to dip it from the very top of its head so that the runs along the side of its face.

Better way is to have your item in the water first with thin wires attached to it for rotation control then add your paint ( doesn't have to be spray paint I use automotive paint from a can) then pull your item up threw the paint.... This the method I have been doing for 40 years.
@GarrisonFall
6 жыл бұрын
I know your comment is really old now (2 years) but, just in case you get notified - I had thought of the same idea but wondered if the paint would stick because the skull/item/object being painted is wet with water - before - it touches the paint. Do you use a special paint to adhere to a wet object?
@kfiscal01

Yes, but if your item floats it's much harder.

Hi I love this I have a silver I guess it's metal pelican sitting on wood with water below it I can't wait to try this this reminds me of water marbling for fingernails with Polish or you can use acrylic paint/craft paints they dry VERY quick in a cup you don't have much time to make a design. HOW quick does that spray paint dry in the water? Thanks in advance and thanks for sharing this is awesome I didn't see where you had any more videos on this am I missing them somewhere?

I know this is old but like most people said base coat it so any blank spots are still colored with something. And any high spots with no holes for an item like this you should drill a tiny hole and I mean just tiny nothing big so that way any air in those high spots can escape.

I did a lot of this in high school and found that metallic paints are pretty hard to work with. matte worked pretty well but i got my best results with satin. different brands worked differently too. also found that the longer you spray the worse the product. I usually didn't spray for more than a second for each ring.

Oil spray paint is getting very hard to get now, as they are taking it off the market and using water based products. The metallic silver paints are made with ground aluminium so it will 'fall out' and you have to keep it mixed to get the paint to cover evenly...anyhoo...great idea but not sure I would use this on a good skull:) Use paper towels to lift out the excess paint that will work better:) Cool idea!!:)
