That is really a quality outcome. If the mechanic thing doesn't work out, you have a future in paint.

Hint, run a ground strap, it will all but eliminate dust nibs. I painted several cars with absolutely zero dust nibs in a garage. And dozens with very few. That with the care you take you're looking at a $8,000 to $10,000 paint job out of you garage...

@@threeriverswrench learned this painting in a garage done as you did, in 1976, I noticed a spec of dust in the sunlight get drawn to the car like a magnet from.5 foot away. Seems painting a car draws static electricity, the ground strap takes it away.

little tip from a paint tech. edge the panel after laying down the flat surfaces. that way any dry spray hitting the panel from the spray gun gets rewetted and wont be under the base and/or clear, helps minimize flaws.its esprectially helpful on the clear stage. also bring the air hose around behind you and drape over your right shoulder and hold hose behind you with left hand greatly reduces the possibility you will hit you freshly panted panel with hose or drop debris into panel.

BTW, my cut and buff video should be out in the next few days. If you see something I could be doing different or something I might be doing wrong, let everyone know. I want to put out some entertaining content but I also want it to be a little educational. Appreciate the feedback!

Never thought of that before. Most videos show the panel getting edged first.

WOW!....turned a bucket O bolts into a DREAM car.. So awesome and I know you are a Proud man... I would put a chair in front and just stare at it...Yep, I did that.... 1 more thing...when you sealed body in garage was the overspray on tools and stuff bad, or easy to clean cause I have a similar garage and Im always scared but it looks like yours is perfect after....
@threeriverswrench

Thanks for watching! Not a lot of overspray. I probably should have put some plastic overtop of stuff, it does help keep the dust down, but overall not bad. Color and clear had a lot more overspray though. Better to be safe than sorry. It did stink up the inside of the house a little, but was gone pretty quick!

turned out really nice ...are you using glass cleaner to wipe down panels..?..if you do another car again look into a LVLP paint gun . they use less air be good for small compressors..
@threeriverswrench

Yep. Spray away glass cleaner.

How long between panels did you wait to let your air to build up? Any issues with your gun waiting between?
@threeriverswrench
Жыл бұрын
For my setup there really was no “wait” time for the compressor during painting. I thought there might be, but it worked out. I’d spray one coat on the panels, stop and step outside for 10 minutes so the paint would flash, then go back in and spray the next coat. No issues. Good question! Thanks for watching!

Base coat clear coat is junk. You want a good paint job do as I do paint with single stage and clear coat over it. It will out last base coat clear coat by a long shot.
