Being a lawn care operator for 27 years I was always amazed at the misuse of lawn chemicals. Homeowners were the worst culprit and often had the misinformed idea that farmers were just dumping chemicals in the fields. Great video guys, took me back to my working days!

No, the farmers are dumping chemicals on fields. My water is ruined from years of farming, and the ditches turn all kinds of colors. Then all the stuff that gets spilled into the ground at the CO-OP. Poisoning the land for profit.

The first farmer I worked for had a John Deere model 18A three point sprayer. We actually filled it by the milk house. We had a cement water cistern buried between the milk house and the barn. When we were spraying we used a sump pump with a line hanging over the milk house roof to fill the sprayer. Filled it right quick and the water was clean. It supplied the water system in the barn.

Thanks for the info and telling about the foam, I was wondering about it. It is amazing how households sometimes use stuff like roundup and other sprays. My husband always was hyper careful, went backwards as he sprayed our small lawn and would not walk on sprayed ground, then came in, switched clothes and washed them right away.

Sometime in the early 1960s Dad began using Atrazine on his cornfields. I am certain our methods would be unacceptable in today's world. Park the 300-gallon sprayer next to the farm well, shake in a bag of powder which put dust in the air and fill with a hose. No protective gear of any kind. He was planting over 2.. acres of corn and the Atrazine mostly eliminated cultivating corn although I do remember falling asleep on the JD 50 a few times with the two-row cultivator mounted. 😄

My dad used to cultivate his crops--first with a two row cultivator, then a four row mounted on his old Massey-Harris 44. Eventually, he upgraded to a three-point mounted four row on a JD 4020. You hear so much about the rising cost of chemicals. Is it still less expensive to spray than to cultivate?

For those watching who do not know corn is a member of the grass family, spraying roundup on corn will kill it along with the grass growing in the field.

I see all these people crying cultivate cultivate CULTIVATE! Then when you have videos off tillage it’s everyone crying no till no till NO TILL! News flash- no till means 3x the chemical usage! Organic/ no chemical means 2-3x the soil distrubing tillage! I just wish people that knew nothing about agriculture would stop trying to give advice- regurgitating scare tactics they heard somewhere.

The chemical sellers are not on the side of consumers so they just keep selling poison. I am pleased you are doing without roundup at least sometimes. Thank you.
