It was sanded and prepped Then a fresh coat of black epoxy, waited 48 hrs then slick sand. No scuffing necessary on epoxy within 7 day window according epoxy manufacturer.

I like the pulsating pattern going down 😂. Do not reduce this stuff it will bite u. Your gun needs to be a 2.4 tip and it sprays perfect . If you wait over 4 days you need to scuff your epoxy primer. Polyester and cured epoxy will not chemically bond without busting open the top shell
@deankay4434

@Brandon Keeler >It was sprayed with SPI epoxy that has a seven day open window for more product. Yes, I agree, even at 3-4 days I would have a feeling I need to scuff with gray scotch brite but unless SPI says to NOT spray a polyester product that hardens with methyl ethyl ketone only, I know it will form a chemical bond thru cross-linking. If you are using epoxy from PPG or DuPont every week, you are most likely correct in your statement, but the thousand who use SPI epoxy first to seal clean metal, sanded w/80 grit work fine. When reduced at 50%, the same epoxy is used as a sealer coat before base. I am doing my research to choose a high build at this point. I do not like the characteristics of products with MEK as hardener. Some are hard to sand (Short stroke DA/Finishing sander w/600 grit) fast using an interface pad dry. Some, if not many have shrinkage issue as it uses the same resins & hardener as fiberglass. It shrinks its entire life. I took a tech to Tennessee to a Sea Ray tour and class. They use vinyl ester resins on boats & yatchts that sit in the water at a slip. Gelcoat is not waterproof and less amino acids are produced, causing delamination

Not sure if you got the build benefits of the poly from what I saw. I think I've been in the same exact shoes as you in this video. It'd be beneficial to have it gauged out to see what your mil build was so you could refine your technique. Hate to be critical like that with you Roger but because I want the best for you and your work I thought I'd share. Keep on rocking it like you do.

Moving to fast ? 3 coats not enough ? I put almost 2 gallons on it , the top sucked I get that , didn't have it dialed in good , figured I would block it down and see what it looks like , if I need to spray more i can , I am also going to put 3 coats of high build over the slick sand , unless you suggest otherwise , thanks for the comment , without constructive criticism I will never get better , especially from guys like you .
@jamesfreddys

Oh ok. Never mind 3 gallons on a camaro seems to get around 18 mils. For some reason I thought you sprayed 1 gallon. You're working your ass off on this project and I want to show you proper respect and help out if I can. Still get it gauged and test your application to adjust your spray/mix technique. That Napa/O'Reilly you get paint mixed at can help out.

Looking for a paint thickness gauge , I always figure you get what you pay for , and the ones that looks somewhat quality are 400.00 dollars , that's pretty steep and they go up from there if you want one that detects " non ferrous metals " I found a " bondo detector , but it just gives 1/16 , 1/8 , 1/4 ect .. Not very accurate and that's 90.00 , any suggestions for the non body shop guy that can't spend that kind of money on a elcometer ?
@jamesfreddys
8 жыл бұрын
I don't think you should buy one there should be a technical representative from the place you buy paint that will have a mil thickness gauge and that person can measure it for you.
