The picturesque glacial lake Oldevatnet is definitely worth a visit if you travel around the Norwegian region Vestland. It is located in the valley of Oldedalen at a height of 33 meters above sea level. It covers an area of 7.9 square kilometers.
We have been here several times, but because this is the western part of Norway, where rains are often, the weather was cloudy, and the mountaintops and glaciers were hidden by thick clouds.
Therefore, as soon as we saw that the sunny weather coincided with our weekend, we immediately gathered for the trip, in anticipation of unreal beauty! And finally, they took all our cameras and lenses with them!
April in Norway is one of the most beautiful times of the year when spring has already descended into the valleys, the first leaves have appeared on the trees, but fluffy caps of white snow still lie on the mountain tops.
Our path to the glacial lake Oldevatnet begins on the shore of the Innvikfjorden. Where we look at the city of Olden from above. Now it is quiet and deserted because today there are no large cruise ships at the pier. Which means life goes on as usual.
Then we drive along the pleasantly murmuring and clear spring Oldeelva River. Very soon the glaciers will begin to melt and the river will become full-flowing, and will also acquire a rich turquoise color. But now you can even see the rocky bottom.
Rising upstream of the river, the first lake appears on our way, its name is Floen. We especially draw a map so that you understand where we are filming and better plan your trip and stops!
Further on, Lake Oldevatnet begins; it consists of two basins with a total length of 11 kilometers, connected by a narrow strait. Here we move to the other side of the lake via the Sunde Bru bridge.
The mountains become even higher and the reflections become even clearer. By the way, the second part of Oldevatnet is no longer so transparent. And despite the early spring for Norway, the rich turquoise color of the water has still been preserved here since last year.
The narrow, dark, and round tunnel on road number 724 (Fv724) was usually one-way, but due to an avalanche, there were no oncoming cars there. This time we were lucky and we passed it without any incidents!
We also made stops at two small capes Gytri and Yri. There are two campsites on the first one, by the way, in 2021 we stopped here and rode a red canoe on the lake. You can watch this video here:

And on the second cape of Yyuri, there is the Yrineset recreation area. This is where you can sit in the most Instagrammable place of Lake Oldevatnet - a pipe overlooking a breathtaking panorama of the mountains. And of course, take a souvenir photo with a sculpture in the shape of a stone heart.
At the end of the lake, there is a multi-level Sulkja waterfall. We finally approached the beautiful glacier of the largest glacier in continental Europe, Jostedalsbreen, which was reflected in the surface of the lake all the way.
It was the first warm and sunny day of this spring. And we had a wonderful time. We invite you to ride with us, admire the reflections of the mountains and enjoy the melody, which in our opinion perfectly conveys the atmosphere and mood of this day!
