My vote for cardigans is the Tokyo Cardi 1. I feel like all the others are shaped like the cardigan you're wearing. The Tokyo will will be a newer shape and easy to wear. I like the Sophie wrap too, less fussy than the other wrap. Una Tee was the prettiest basic to me. Marigold Tee feels like a must-knit. I haven't seen you do a lot of color work and on rare warm days, that top is enough to make an outfit. Easy wearing / styling. Being the cost-conscious person I am, I feel like you should save your first cashmere knit for that hat pattern you love. Cashmere is supposed to be super warm too. No idea if this would work, but your summer cover up made me think of Cascade Eco Hemp. The hemp really makes it feel like a rustic summer yarn to me, real throw-on vibes, but the wool keeps it sort of soft and would probably fill in holes a bit. Not sure if it'd be as drapey as you want though and its a DK weight, so you'd need larger needles / lots of pattern updates for the vibe you want.

Thanks for all the advice Tanya! 🩷 Completely agree on the Marigold tee. I never ever do colourwork and this one is approachable and definitely looks amazing as a final piece. I think you've convinced me 😄 I'll check out Cascade Eco Hemp as I've never come across that before

Thank you for your lovely podcasts... I am very new to knitting and enjoying it a lot. And instantly fell in love with MELIDES Dress... I will practice more and then maybe can start next year. Currently I am working on the Silkycloud Shawl, which is super lightweight and I like the assymetric shape and colourblocking effect.

Great goal to make the MELIDES dress for yourself in the future! The knitting itself isn't too hard, it's just the reading of the pattern that can be confusing. That shawl pattern is so pretty!

I’ve had the same reflexion about the Melides dress. I’d really prefer to knit it in the round, but after seeing the pattern I’m not sure I feel confident trying to alter it. If you ever do it successfully, please post about it 😅.

I also love Braidy and Agnete. Agnete is a big project with many technical details but I think you are capable! As for lightweight yarns, maybe you’ll like Holst Garn. They have many fine yarns and are a nice price point. Also I think the term you are looking for is open weave fabric. Lastly, you might like the Joni top by Natasja Hornsby. There’s a lace panel in the front that shouldn’t be too hard. Good luck ❤

I knit the Tee No. 1 this winter because I loved the look of it. My finished piece unfortunately does not look nearly as good. The folded hems were really hard to knit so that they made a nice clean edge, the pickup ratios didn’t work for me (had to pick up way less stitches) but the worst part for me is the fit. I am a bustier girl and the fit just emphasizes this so much. I tried saving it with short rows for some bust shaping, knitting it longer and so on but its not working. If you are knitting it, i hope you have a better result than I had ;)

Thanks for sharing Annika! Really appreciate the honesty about your experience. I also have a bit larger chest and when I think about my experience with similar fitting retail tops they also didn’t flatter me that much. So maybe that one will come off the list. I think the Una tee is very similar but a bit less oversized so maybe I’ll opt for that one

Thank you for sharing the beautiful patterns. I've also been thinking about how to modify the dress to knit in the round only thing I've decided so far is that I'm going to do a slip stitch detail in place of where the icord is and just see the buttons on top, don't need it to open. Curious handmaid has lots of nice light weight shawl patterns so are even just one skein so nice and simple. ❤

You have a lot of great ideas! I personally have made the Cumulus tee about 4 times, different colours and one stripe. I've also did a ribbing finish instead of the iCord which gives it a different look. I have a big bust and find that V neck sweaters and tShirts look best. I would love to see you knit the dress. I don't think I'm quite up to it at the moment. Good luck!

Thank you for the list of items to look into. I need cardigans in my wardrobe too. I’m not a shawl person either, but I’ve been knitting some samples for dyers. My favorite to knit is The Frank Shawl by Joji Locateli. It’s a 3 part construction without having to pick up stitches. It starts on the left side, then the right side and the middle joins it all together. This works great for a fade or a way to show off colors.

Love your choices for the coming season. I've got Kinross 4 ply lambswool in grey and black (which is as soft as silk when blocked btw) to knit the Prismatic by Wool and Pine designs along with a bright hand-dyed to give that stained glass effect, I'm making it with short sleeves. Also, I've decided to knit the Anker tee with your Line yarn, looking forward to getting that started. 😍

I love most of your choices and have knitted a few of them already. The Levitate wrap is amazing and good for spring I think. Although I did mine in a single strand of Nutiden plus mohair so can't really speak to the recommended yarn. The Sofie wrap is high up on my cast on list. Probably happening in the next two weeks. I am currently working on sweater no. 28 which is very similar to the soft loop sweater. The no.28 uses fingering plus one mohair so a bit less pricy. Instead of fingering I am using Knitpicks Gloss Lace (70/30 merino/silk). Love the fabric so far and the texture. I really hope the fit is going to turn out as great. Regarding the large gauge/see trough sweater I have a couple things to say. I knit the light loop sweater with two strands of Isager Mohair on 8mm needles and it's really nice (at the time I didnt have 7mm and wanted a large gauge). Wore it many times. I then wanted an even airier fabric by using a single strand mohair (I love mohair) but wanted a raglan. So I chose to experiment and knit the Juntu Sweater by Tiina Huhtaniemi on 6mm needles with a single strand. Turned out perfect! (You can adjust the neckline by using smaller needles for the ribbing). I have not done it but I am sure you can use something like Cardiff Cashmere Brushlight instead. I think there are a couple other brands who do a very thin fuzzy cashmere yarn. Excited to watch your progress!

Sigrid Bralette is a DK weight bralette, but it's color work. You can opt to make it one color though and it has thicker straps so totally bra appropriate. The Easy Bralette by Svetlana Volkova, moon bralette by maria isaeva, and the basic bralette by Julee O'Maelmacasa all have thick straps.

Thank you for sharing your ideas! I've added some of them to my list too :) I wanted to share a word of caution about the designer behind Moreca Knit - I had a very unpleasant experience with her when she refused to honor the conditions of her own giveaway because she decided to change her IG handle and thus "rebrand" herself into a completely different account (she even went and translated all her posts from Russian into English - previously her IG handle was zavizala, and she was selling patterns in Russian). The giveaway was a one-year subscription to all her new patterns (which I won along with two more people), and about half a year in she changed the handle and basically anulled the subscription without any explanation. When I asked about it on her page, she deleted my comment and unsubscribed me from her account, and when I asked her about it in direct messages, she rather curtly told me that she's a different "brand" now, so it doesn't count anymore. That left a very unpleasant impression and made me not want to support that designer in any way in the future.

Funny you mention that cardigan as it was actually in my fall knitting plans and I was super excited to make it. But then I looked at other people’s project photos and they just didn’t do it for me. There is something about the button band that looks great in her pattern photos but doesn’t seem to translate as well in real life 🤷🏻♀️ Thanks for the designer recommendation! New to me

Im not sure substituting mohair with heavier wools, and alpaca in particular, will give you the results you are looking for. You will lose the lightness. Lots of beautiful projects. Look forward to seeing what you end up making.

I love all your ideas. I am also one with a larger bust, 38 double D is what I am. I am a new knitter that needs to build my confidence. I have made a tank top with help from a person close by that has moved away. I really feel my hand needs to be held for a little while to keep me going when I get stuck I’m wanting to make a T-shirt. I like lightweight garments I wear them around put a cardigan over them when needed, I think works really well. I have been a Crochet since I was nine but I like the material of knitting so much better. I was hit by a logging truck had on I lost a leg but I’m determined to keep going, so yes, I am walking and I am driving and I am a caregiver, I have a treadmill but I keep using every day to help me in the winter specially. I am a swimmer. Haven’t been to the pool for a couple months, but when I do I try to swim a mile I do have a water leg which I use all the time for the shower.. I don’t know how you could help me, but I would take all the help I can get. Thank you so much Linda Cornelius.

I really like the Una Tee as well, the shape is quite my style, but I am a little unsure if it is suitable as a first garment knit in terms of complexity? Also looks like an investment in the yarn department 🥲 I live in Calgary and the summer heat renders any garment useless 😃

Hello fellow Calgarian! The Una tee looks like it will be fairly simple until you get to the trim which is folded over hems and those are a bit trickier just because they take more time and patience. If you ant a good starter tee I highly recommend the Tolsta by The Creabea. It's a simple raglan that you can modify to suit your tastes and size.
