Guess iam not the only one in my family who remembers the Spud Gun. My 25 yr old daughter came to dinner last night and asked what my latest video will be ? When i replied a Spud Gun she wanted to play with it right away and was soon shooting rubber pellets across the table. She also took it straight home LOL. No way was she giving it up. Guess we are all still big kids at heart.

I had the full armoury over the years....spud gun, gat pistol, webly tempest pistol, sharp inova pump up rifle and a multitude of air rifles up to this day!! Been shooting over 40 years and still love the simplicity of a spring rifle or pistol and a few tins at the bottom of the garden...... Happy day's! Cheers, keep safe.

That's a neat toy. I have heard of them but have never owned one. I think I did have a cap gun back in the day. We did take a Bic pen and stabbed the core of the pen into an orange peel. Then we'd stab the other end with a plug of orange peel and then use the ink shaft to push one piece of orange plug swiftly towards the other piece and the orange plug would take off under pressure like a bullet while it would make a popping sound upon release. I guess that was our home made gun really.

Funny you mention the Bic pens. We used to take out the ink tube and plug in some wet paper and fire them like a pea shooter. Gross but big fun.

I remember I had one of these!! Then my step father gave me his 1 .177 BSS Scorpion air gun, as he couldn't be bothered to get me the gat gun. Man I loved it, I'd be out plinking all day long, I was only about 8, nearly knocked my front teeth out with it when I thought it a good idea to but the gun up to my mouth so I could look down the barrel better 😂😅 then later I got my Gamo Magnum air-rife. Great times

My all-time favourite toy handgun was a sekiden, semi auto plastic ball bearing pistol. It resembled a .45 and was loaded via a slot on top with small bearings, could shoot as fast as your finger would allow, perfect small boys toy( anyone remember them?) still loved my spud gun though, firm fresh spuds always worked best.

Yep I had one of these in the 80s but I agree, I think they were slightly bigger. Mine also had the moving hammer which you cou put a single paper strip can under. Bizarrely I bought the one you're holding for my son today boom 2.99 . The lone star one's you could get up until a decade ago. I also went through a similar process with air guns.

I grew up in America, we start with a bb-gun at 8 and go directly to a 22. Caliber rifle a few years later. Of course there's squirt-guns or water-guns but those are great for kids as well as adults regardless.

You never needed a license for an airgun (under a certain power level, like the ones you showed), and you could use one as a kid, but needed to be 17 to buy the gun or pellets. I had my first airgun, a BSA Meteor, at 10 years old; and despite having shotguns and firearms for most of my life, always had at least one airgun right up until I left the UK. (They’re licensed here, so I never bothered, and just stuck with shotguns and rifles).

I made a "Spud gun" out of some appropriately sized PVC tube, hairspray, and a piezo ignitor from an old BBQ as a kid. It'd easily fire a potato a mile, and would put holes through 1/2 inch plyboard. 🙃 I did have one of these though, we'd have wars in the street. Carrots work well too 👍

6:00 -- RE: Loading a Spud Gun; Funny, when you said that spud guns weren't as common after the 1980s, because I first encountered one in the UK in the 1980s. I also clearly recall that the gun had both a hammer to strike a cap, *AND* a separate "cartridge" which could be loaded apart from the gun (cheap aluminum or steel) and then inserted into chamber for firing, with a break-open action. My childhood memory of it wanted to insist that the paper cap was making the plug of potato fly but clearly it was pneumatic.

Bit late to this Party but I had several as a Kid in the 90s, used to keep the pellets in the little tubs you'd get with toys in in those UFO yoghurts, still had the hammer and were full metal, just could never find the cap tape as the local shops only had the 8 shot and single dart ones. Definately had a fun time shooting shooting hand drawn targets in the Kitchen. As to actual Air rifles, you can pretty much have any Calibre you like aslong as it's sub 12ftlbs in power without a license, not sure if it was lower in the past (as I was definately buying the Airsoft type in my early teens) but currently it's 18 to buy any form of Airgun bar toys like these, no restriction of use under adult supervision though.

Yeah this took me back to the good old days. I had a few different Spud Guns as a kid back in the late seventies. Then I got The 177 Gat Gun in the early eighties in the same box as the second one you showed then I had a .22 Webley Tempest air pistol I think it was a Tempest but it was my first .22 then on my eighth birthday I got my first air rifle a .22 that I had to pump it up to shoot it. I don’t remember what make it was but I think it was just a cheap one. We didn’t use the Spud Gun as a water pistol we used a fairy washing up Bottle as a water pistol/water cannon hahaha.
