i bursted out laughing the first time you just started walking on the magma surfaces one of my all time favorite things in games is when they just don't add in certain behaviours for other playable characters because "ah they'll never get here anyways". ball gadget segment was awesome as well. its interesting to see just how different level proportions are for the different characters! areas feel more cramped just because hunter is so much larger fun proof of concept, kinda wanna try messing around with this myself lmaoo

It's definitely fun! This game tends to behave very strangely when you play as an unintended character, enemies even within the same section will behave entirely differently from each other, it's wild. It's fun to mess around with Hunter outside his levels, though it's also fairly easy to get stuck!

It actually helps a lot in getting past the doors guarded by enemies Hunter can't kill, very fortunate the developers just left a random platform there! Weirdly enough, this is not the only random out of bounds platform that helps Hunter move around, there's one in Dragonfly Falls too. Almost like they were expecting all this madness to be done!

Do you ever consider making a mod to unlock the fps in AHT? considering the game just goes faster by actually unlocking it?
@EbbeAHT
Жыл бұрын
I honestly don't know, I think 6th gen consoles were made to only ever output signals for CRT's which would always be either 50hz (PAL) or 59.94hz (NTSC), so I have my doubts. The engine was designed with variable framerates in mind though, there's a variable in memory which is essentially an "expected framerate" value, and you can speed the game up by decreasing it and slow it down by increasing it. I've tried setting that variable to 120 and simply doubling the emulation speed, resulting in a pseudo 120fps experience. It's not perfect (some things were still designed with 60fps in mind) but it's something I suppose. If we ever get a PC port of the game, that's a different story. Anything will be possible then.

Hey Ebbe, I've got a question: So, a few days ago, after hours of research, I finally figured out how to get and use an emulator. If it helps I got the Dolphin emulator for free, which might have something to do with the problem I'm about to tell you about. Anyways, so I got the emulator, and of course the first thing I did was get Spyro: A Hero's Tail. Because it was the first video game I ever played 11 years ago when I was just 4, and so I basically owed it the title of being the first install. Anyways, so I get the game, and at first things are great. The frames are great, the graphics were great, the audio was great, it all felt perfect. Just the GameCube game I remembered, now on my PC, no differences at all! Or so I thought. See, there is a twist to this story, and a pretty significant one at that. Once I got past the opening cutscene, I found out the hard way that the controls... sucked. The default key binds were all positioned very weirdly, and so it felt like I had to think about even simple things like jumping. This is in stark contrast to how I am on the GameCube, where I actually once fought Red while eating a sandwich because that was how good I was. And so, what I did was I tried changing all the key binds to what they would be if Spyro was a natively PC game. What I mean by this is I changed all the movement and functions to the traditional WASD for movement, SPACE for jumping, MOUSE 1 for attack, E for other interactions, TAB for map, ESC for menu, etc. But even that felt janky and weird, because, well, it's not a PC game, it's a GameCube game artificially copied onto a PC, so, the problem remained unfixed. Also, there was this weird thing that happened (and this was so annoying that it led me to uninstalling the game, the emulator, and asking you this very question) where I would be walking forward as any character, Spyro, Hunter, Blink, f***ing SGT. BIRD, and I would make even the SMALLET, TEENIEST TINIEST TURN, and suddenly my character would, I kid you not, *choose* to do a 360 one, two, three times all their own without any of my input. I bet the only reason this didn't happen with Sparx is because he is forced to go forward. So, yeah, you can imagine how annoying that was. This random 360 jumpscare thing caused me to run out of time as Sgt. Bird, fall of ledges as Hunter and Blink, and do both as Spyro. What's worse is that it happened while flying too. Which meant that it was actually *impossible* for me to get past the Coastal Remains because Spyro would mess it up by spinning while flying to an important spot *every single time.* So, you get the point. Very annoying. All of this leading me to ask: What key binds do you recommend, since you know more about this stuff than me? And also, is this a Dolphin emulator problem, a free emulator problem, or a GameCube game on PC problem? This is getting too complicated, but what I'm trying to ask here is, *WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO FIX THESE PROBLEMS!? I'm going nuts here!* Sorry for the long comment, I like to type, but if this was annoying to read, I do really apologize.
@EbbeAHT

The 360 spin bug is a problem with the movement in the game, and it happens on controller too. The problem is significantly worsened with keyboard controls however, because the inputs are digital. The bug happens when you switch directions back and forth very quickly while moving. It happens more often on digital inputs due to being constrained to 8 directions instead of the full analog stick range. I'm sorry to say the only suggestion I have is to get a controller. This game was not designed with keyboard and mouse in mind.

So, again, unless you ask for the details, all I'll say right now is what you told me worked, and now, I am running Spyro on my PC with a smile on my face and with enjoyment in my eyes!
