The old man had a plan that would have allowed him to not take part in the marble game since it was the only game where he couldnt have guaranteed to clear it. When one of the guards pulls off his blanket and we see that he wet himself during the night you can also spot an empty water bottle next to his pillow. He drank a full bottle of water before going to sleep so he could pee in his own pants on purpose to make himself look even weaker than before. No one would want to pick an old man who just wet himself as a partner for a game where your life is at stake so he would have been the one without a partner. He didnt count on Gi-hun to be so nice as to pick him to be his partner.

The title of the last episode, 'One Lucky Day' (운수 좋은 날) is going to be a big spoiler to Koreans, at least for the part where Ki-hoon's mother is found dead. One Lucky Day is one of the most famous short stories in the history of Korean literature (even elementary school kids know it). The main character in the story, Kim Cheom-ji, is an impoverished rickshaw puller. One day, his sick and starving wife asks him if he could get a bowl of meat soup for her on his way back from work. Kim Cheom-ji gets infuriated ("Where do we have the money to?") and rejects her request. The wife answers, "well, I am feeling like something will happen today, so please come back as soon as the work is done." As usual, he heads for work. Oddly, the day turns out to be "one lucky day" for Kim Cheom-ji. Because of a sudden rain, he gets more long-distance customers than usual, and, in return, more profit than ever before. Delighted, Kim Cheom-ji doesn't reject a wealthy student's request to go extra miles for double his usual paycheck after his usual working hour. He gets back home very late, with a bowl of meat soup in his hand. He can hear his baby crying in the house, and when he opens the door, he finds his wife's corpse, gone cold from illness and starvation. He picks her up and cries, "I brought the soup you asked for. Why are you unable to eat it? Dam*it, I knew it was one heck of a lucky day."

The reason why Gi-Hun finally got back to his feet and used the money was because he finally felt relieved from all the regrets. Il-Nam died and he assumed the games were down so it eased him up alot and made him finally moved on. The old man was the highest ranking member of the squid games corporation and had been for 50 years. He had seen many many games come and go with his rich friends. He knew that he was dying from an incurable illness and wanted to feel alive just one more time. He was never really in any mortal danger in any game though. If you look close you can see this in every game. All of which were hand picked by the old man as they were his favourite games as a child. There have been many variants of games throughout the decades. On the first game ‘Red light Green light’ the old man never has a solid green outline around him at any time when you see him through the giant dolls eyes. Meaning that he never would have been shot on the no mans land. On the tug of war game the old mans hands are not padlocked to the rope. He had to bow out during the marbles game as the glass bridge would have been too dangerous.

Also I've seen a lot of reactors get disappointed and angry that he wouldnt just go see his daughter and while I had the same initial reaction and frustration with him walking away from the plane I do think that the final seen with Il nam and the homeless man was a great highlight into why he didnt board the plane. Gi Hun clearly saw that there is good in teh world with that person calling the police to help the man and the whole game Il nam played was to highlight whether or not there is still good in the world where people will help others they see struggling (ie the homeless man) and so Gi Hun is taking that exact action and not just going to his daughter and live his life ignoring full well the squid games are still happening...which i think links the two scenes perfectly! Though tbh ya he should hang out w/ his daughter too lol. The working theory is that the workers and players are all recruited the same way. When you meet the recruiter, the color envelope you choose determines whether you will be a player or worker. The criteria is also the same. A person down on their luck, in debt, having signed off on their bodily rights and desperate to escape their position in life. The shapes are designed so the other workers can keep an eye on the new workers in case they can’t handle it. The top workers are veterans, having worked multiple games.

The fact that Gi-hun gave Sang-woo's mom a new son to raise makes me cry every time I watch that scene. Show creator has already confirmed Jun-ho will be back so I hope we'll get to see more interaction between the brothers. I'd really like to see some background on In-ho, and what made him decide to work for the games. Also, I'd like to see some sort of background on the salesman and see him take a bigger role in the second season. I am all in for Jun-ho and Gi-hun to team up and buddy cop this thing. The cast was phenomenal. The roles of Gi-hun and Sang-woo were written specifically for those actors. Park Hae-soo (Sang-woo) and Anupam Tripathi (Ali) became close, and Anupam actually calls Hae-soo 'hyung' in real life. There's a very sweet interview with the cast where Anupam is praising Hae-soo and Hae-soo gets flustered, writes 'I love you' on a piece of paper, and holds it up to the camera for everyone to see. Those two are adorable. Man, I wish there was a way to bring Ali back, his death was the most devastating thing for me. And now, we wait for season 2. I'm worried about how they're going to equal the first season, but I know they're going to do their best to give us something awesome. Now we wait...

This...episode makes you reconsider Ill-Nam a tad, eh? Sure, he DID offer the players a way out of the game, after the initial slaughterfest of Red Light, Green Light -- and those who witnessed that carnage and chose willingly to come back, well...that's kinda on them. However, it does make you think a little bit: the old man, who had more money than what he knew what to do with and was becoming increasingly bored with his existence, wanted to recapture the magic and wonder and playfulness of his childhood one last time before he died. So...to that end, he ordered the construction of a creepy-as-fuck robot doll with motion trackers that triggered machine guns to mow down anyone who flinched a little bit. He banded together a group of creepy-as-fuck "VIPs" with a ton of cash to burn to watch these spectacles live and in person, while resting their feet up on human furniture. He installed a totalitarian regime in which you had to remain 100% anonymous, and any deviation from that meant that you were immediately killed -- without question. And I could go on and on with this list! But I do think that the old man as the host, while a nice "show twist," kinda takes a way *just a bit* from Episode 6, at least in retrospect.

Rewatching reactions, and I think an important connection to the last scene is when Gi-Hun missed his daughter’s birth. Instead, he stayed at the factory to strike, and fight the riot police and tried to save his co-worker. At his core, Gi-Hun is a hero. He can’t sit back and let people suffer injustice, even when his own safety and happiness is attainable. He couldn’t go to America to see his daughter. Not while he knew the games were still going on. He had to take action, after so many years of sitting back.

The front man didn’t go for the kill shot. When his brother looks him up amongst the players from 2015 it doesn’t show his face but you can see his info. If you translate it the fact that the front man used to be a police officer is made available on that page. He would know how to shoot to kill and he didn’t. Also explains how he recognized the ammo as the ones used by police officers so quickly.

Actually, he didn't call his brother by name. In Korea a younger male or brother call their older brother "Hyung"... I believe in the episode, he called him "Hyung" but in the subtitle it was translated to "In ho" which was wrong.

Lee Byung-hun, the actor who portrayed The Front Man, also portrayed Storm Shadow in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (2009) and G.I. Joe: Retaliation (2013), starred in Red 2 (2013), portrayed T-1000 in Terminator Genisys (2015) and Billy Rocks in The Magnificent Seven (2016). The Korean movie Ji-yeong mentioned in episode 6 is Inside Men (2015).

Lee Byung-Hun is a very famous actor, and that is part of the reason why his picture was not shown when the detective Jun-Ho flipped to the player page. The picture would have taken the audience right out of that world. Also, Lee Byung-Hun is perhaps best known Korean actor to the Western world. He was in GI-Joe movies as Storm Shadow, Red2 (with Bruce Willis, John Malkavic, Helen Mirren, et al) as Han Cho-Bai, and the remake of Magnificent Seven with Denzel Washington as Billy Rocks.

Heyyy! You mentioned my Lee Byung Hun comment! Thanks! I feel seen lol. I came to your channel cause of Squid Game and it felt like a journey, you guys are such great 'reactors' so honestly, thanks. I have a few suggestions for what you guys can do next if I may be so presumptuous: - Haikyuu!! : Probably the best sports anime ever made. It's about volleyball and the characters are amazing. The matches are *AS EXHILARATING AND EXCITING* as the Tug of War sequences from SG. You don't need to know anything about the sport and you feel so much for all the characters (especially the main) and really root for the team - you just want to watch episode after episode. It's very light hearted, fun and *HILARIOUS*. So after Squid Game if you're looking for some laughs, this would be the top choice. Having seen your AoT reaction, I know you guys would be perfect for it, and you'd make the right choice with subbed. - Ozark: If you still want something a bit darker, I would go for this. It's a drama/thriller (with Jason Bateman) as someone who has to suddenly uproot their entire lives and the lives of his very confused middle class family because of DEEP, DEEP trouble with the cartel. Excellent show, high tension, crazy twists and turns, and a very interesting and engaging story. - Kimetsu no Yaiba (Demon Slayer): I dont have to tell you, this is probably one of the best animes ever made and it's got a lot of heart. ---- I hate to make this an essay, but this is my theory about the pink guys. What us westerners forget often is that in South Korea they have mandatory military service, for, I think 2 years. The pink guys need to be able to kill without hesitation at a moment's notice, and 'regular' people, desperate or not, are just not psychopathic enough to do that. So, my feeling is that the 'organizers' have possible recruiters straight from the military, where they pick out individuals who seem like they'd be able to do that (and are also possibly desperate too) and just be okay with it. That would also explain how there can be two good divers there since the military undoubtedly has some kind of Navy. Even the circles have to deal with death/dead bodies/cremation...etc, so my thoughts are that even they have to fit that personality type from the military. The Host is probably each one of the VIPs and each time the Squid Games goes to their respective country that VIP becomes The Host and they each have a Frontman.

You can tell The Frontman was an ex-cop (or some say possibly an undercover cop infiltrating the operations, not sure about this) from the way he knew about how many rounds of bullets policemen have in their guns. So he should be quite sharp shooter. But because his brother would not go back with him, he has to shoot him in order not to expose his relationship with the cop. Hence you kinda know he deliberately shot the cop in the shoulder cage where there are no vital organs. At most it will be lodged in the web of arm muscles there.

Wow, it's been a hell of a ride with you guys, so glad I found your channel when I did to catch these reactions as soon as they dropped I've seen a lot of speculation about weather or not Il-nam's Life was ever on the line. I think it fits his personality better that it was. He only would have felt truly alive if he was close to death in every game. That's just my personal feeling, that yes he could have been shot or fallen in the tug of war game at any point because playing with death on the line is when a person truly feels alive. Thanks for all the great reactions, I look forward to all the ones you guys post in the future. Next up: Eternals and Hawkeye! Have a great Halloween, we'll see you soon 👍😎🚛

If you look back to EP1, Red Light, Green Light, if you watch very good, then you see that the puppet never scanned player 1. Before the honycomb game, player 1 gives player 456 his jacket back, after the pee accident. but it was HIS jacket; from player 1 !!! So he was protected because of the number 1. That has also the old man always protected in the games...... O.....and if you look back at the ep, you can see all the games painted on the wall. for shure when there only a few beds over..... :-)

dying pink-red color could symbolize the color of the staff. So Gi-hun might stand on the staff side at 2nd round, which would be the biggest reversal from the beginning of the episode 2.

Although a Season 2 is not a definite (the creator has said Season 1 was very rough on him, took a long time to make) but if he were to do one his main idea for a continuation is explore the character of In-ho/The Front Man and his history with his brother, how he got where he is, etc. I've seen people point out that he lived a life very simple life just like Gi-hun at first - in Episode 2 when his Jun-ho is looking for him, note that he lives in a very small room with very minimal possessions, so he probably didn't touch his money either. Also, Jun-ho said that In-ho had only been missing for a couple weeks I believe it was, so it likely means he was living his life normally after he got back until he was called upon for the Squid Games and preparing for it. Another idea the creator said he had was also going into the backstory of The Recruiter, but also said that just continuing Gi-hun's continuation as he goes to try to take down the games is also a possibility. The director also said that the red hair on Gi-hun is meant to symbolize his inner rage at the traumatic experiences he went through and his PTSD, which also kind of speaks to why he chose to go back and try to stop the games instead of going to see his daughter - he's still filled with that rage. There are also a number of other hints that Oh Il-nam was behind things - you can see actually when the doll is targeting in Red Light, Green Light that he's not highlighted in green like the other players except for one other person who is right next to him. In Tug Of War, they never show his chains actually being locked. He's the only person when they go back in Episode 2 that is not shown being gassed in the car. Even his name literally just means "first man."
