The guard theory is interesting but Im not sure if it holds water, in Gi Hun's case anyway. Picking the red or blue ddakji is 50-50, but let's say picking blue reveals something about his personality. If Gi Hun picked red, the most he could be was a circle, because a triangle and a square would mean having to possibly kill innocent people in cold blood without hesitation at a moment's notice. And from what we know of Gi Hun up to the ddakji game, there's NO WAY in hell Gi Hun would be able to just kill someone in cold blood and possibly many. So let's say for argument's sake he becomes a circle, that's no better. Circles, if im not mistaken, do the menial work, which includes carrying bodies, putting them in the coffins and incinerating them. Obviously the circles were given instructions that if someone is still alive in a coffin, just nail the lid shut and burn them anyway - and again, no way Gi Hun would be able to do it and he'd raise a racket. Interesting theory, but again, it just doesn't fit his character. He was chosen for the games because he's got crippling debt and chosen specifically, like the others, because they knew those people would have close to no choice but to risk their lives and participate for the BIG prize and not possibly some paycheck for being a guard. Interesting theory that Gi Hun, Il Nam and Sang Woo are 'related' in some way - but again, I dont think so. People get the impression they're 'related' because of the reasons you guys touched on, they have a symbolic father/son/brother relationships. What ties them together is just the theme of the whole story. They all embody part of that theme which gives them a lot of similarities but also a lot of differences. It's cool that people are trying to look deep into this, but sometimes things really just are surface level

Yes, this is what puzzled me. In the 1st episode, Gi-hun enters 0-4-2-6 in the ATM as the pin to his mom’s debit card, stating that his birthday might be the pin (this would imply that his birthday is 26th of April), but when Jun-ho was flipping through the files in episode 5 (I guess), we see that Gi-hun’s birthday is actually Oct 31, 1974 (Halloween duh). Also, in the last episode, when he dialed the number given on the card while boarding his flight, they asked for his name and birthday, and he himself said that his birthday was Oct 31, 1974. I think so the makers failed to maintain consistency of this detail? However, knowing this show, there must be something else to it. But is it also possible that the old man purposely mentioned the wrong date? Oooof, too confusing!

I definitely think it’s possible for Il-Nam to be Gi-Hun’s father specifically because after their brief initial interaction in Game 1 Il-Nam went to Gi-Hun’s neighborhood to basically bait him back into the game. There's one evidence debunking father-son theory. In first episode when Gi-Hun steals mom's bank card, we see that the mother's name is Oh Mal Soon. In Korea, wives do not change their last name upon marriage. And marriage between same last name is forbidden especially in that generation. My theory is that the mother would've been very young during Korean War. And that Il-Nam is her older brother who got separated with his sister in the war. Similar to movie "Ode to My Father" This actually make sense because Mal-Soon means last girl. Il-Nam means first boy.

The neighbourhood doesn't just resemble Ilnam's home, it's what lots of Korean neighbourhoods looked like in the 80s. It's not particularly special to them, we just saw them talking about it cause they're the main characters. Sangwoo wouldn't need to talk about it with Ali cause Ali wouldn't know, same with Saebyuk from the North (and too young). Plus, they only need it to be said once, since Koreans collectively relate. The first theory regarding the guards is decent but I don't see how it works fully. We see that some of the guards have known each other from previous games (specifically the organ harvesting subgroup), so there's likely a high return rate among them. And we saw in the first episode that many/most/all of the contestants went through the Ddakji-slapping process. So it might be a bit unreasonable to think that they'd have so many open guard spots to offer all of these players the chance of choosing the blue card. Plus, it's not really a good way to find people who are okay with shooting and killing people.

About the marbles scene: Il-Nam couldn't have predicted that there would be an odd number of people to make it to that game. He couldn't have predicted how many would die in the earlier games and couldn't have predicted how many people would die in the riot. It makes the most sense to say there was a plan in place for either outcome: if he joined the game, he'd intend to lose, and if he hadn't been picked, perhaps he would've just disappeared and the other players told he'd been eliminated.

Hey love your reaction videos, just want to clear one thing up. The flashback in the last episode takes us back to directly after the marbles game rather than how you said that Il-nam last minute joined the game. It was definitely planned for him to join up beforehand and this timeline is assumed because in episode 7, the Front Man addresses Il-nam while he's in the mask letting him know the VIPs have arrived. In the flashback, it takes us back to this moment where Il-nam says "You attend the guests for me" and he explains that watching (the rest of the game) wouldn't be as fun as participating. He's already had his fill so watching the rest would bring no more enjoyment. Just wanted to clear that up for you guys.

As theorized, perhaps after In-ho won he also sought to destroy the system just like what Gi-hun seems to be planning to do on the finale. However, maybe somewhere along the line, In-ho is forced to realize that he couldn't beat the system so he decided to join them to try and change it gradually from the inside. The game seems to have been happening for years based on the rows of files in the records room. For all we know, the game could have been less fair and democratic, and more battle-royale-like in the past. Perhaps, only when In-ho became the overseer did they allow players to vote to leave (and return if they want), play twisted children's games instead of outright killing each other off, and apply the philosophy of equal opportunity among the players. Also, in that close range he could've shot his brother in the head but he "missed" and shot his brother on the shoulder instead. This suggests that he does love his brother still (he did give him one of his kidneys after all) and probably shot him because they're surrounded by the guards and this was the only way to let him escape.

Remember when Il Nam is losing his son's birthday is approaching as it was the 24th, the PIN that Gi Hun entered which he said was his birthday was 4/26, however his records and the birthdate he said at the end was 10/31. There is a winner list that the cop looks at and the front man’s name is on it. He won in 2015 (if I remember correctly).

Another small detail that I’ve not seen posted anywhere online: In episode 2 when Jun-Ho enters In-Ho’s abandoned apartment, we can see the apartment is small and modeled exactly like the rooms the masked workers sleep in on the island - from desk location, to the bed. This shows that In-Ho more than likely became a worker after winning the games in 2015 and wanted to stay in an apartment modeled after their rooms on the island. He probably then worked his way up to become the Front Man. I also believe he is the first and only Front Man.

That's a good point. The apartments means so much. I don't know why some people are saying Il-ho has been missing since 2015. Hasn't it only been long enough for his mom to miss him? If he was gone for 4 years that little apartment would have been rented out.

I think Il-Nam in the end, was disappointed in Gi-Hun and tried to make him care for others more unfortunate than himself. It seemed to work, as he does go to Sae-Byeok’s little brother afterwards. Helping him in his own twisted way, like a father.

This is my theory = that squid games is organised in Korea by the 1 host among those billionaires... There r different games in different countries held by different rich hosts.... Maybe nxt season might be in another island...majority Participants are gonna be from a specific country of host... Also every year different host take over so games wont stop after old mans death....

I actually could believe that theory that Il-nam knows what's going to happen. Or at least he assumes. It could be true that it's a test to see who among the players would chose him to be the partner in the Marble Game. If no one picked Il-nam, as Han Min Yeo said, he could be the "Odd one out" instead of Han Minyeo and automatically passed the fourth game. But if someone picked Il-nam, it could be the luck of that person (in this case, Gi-Hun) since he's going to let himself defeated in that game anyway and Gi-Hun is kind of granted a free pass to the next game.

Actually Korean people prefer to choose "blue" over "red" because "red" color signifies communism as in NK and China. Gi-hun might have lived with Il-nam in the same house when he was a kid, which signifies he's Il-nam's son or his nephew.

His theory of saving Mi-nyeo from the partner round is just plain wrong. Korea has a tradition of calling people who are left out of a game "kkakdugi", and it's just korean tradition, nothing else.

My question is, what about the players who left the game post the first round and didn’t choose to come back after the voting was over? Are they being watched by the workers? Or have they been looped back in some manner? Because the Front Man had ordered the workers to keep a watch on the players after they were dropped off on the streets (more like trash-dumped), and we know that everyone who becomes a part of the game at the some point is either being watched or is dead (like how Gi-Hun, the only surviving player is being tracked even after a year, which is evident from the fact that they knew he was boarding a flight and told him it would be best if he takes the flight.)

But the brother… didn’t the building lady of his apartment say that she hasn’t seen him in a week?? Or something like that?? I thought that the frontman and the guards also receive a card similar to the one the players get once a year, but to get ready for the games

I don't think when we see ll Nam taking off the fox mask during the flashback in the finale and saying "I don't want to watch bc it's not as fun" was a flashback to when he chose to play. I think it was a flashback to right after he got taken out of the marble game before the vips showed up. I think he got dressed up to meet with the vips to watch the glass bridge game but didn't want to be he had just finished playing and now watching wouldn't be fun.

I actually think illnam wanted to get chosen in the marbles cause he cant do the stepping stones one cause of hes tumor he could forget or he could be the 1st to go. He knew gi-hun would pick him instead if he didn't he could die in the next game or he could get pushed off

The one in red suit.. but he came out to b one of the vips..

(Might be obvious, so sorry if I'm just being stupid) I think the VIPs all have games in their seperate countries. From the files we find out that the games are played multiple times a year, but it would be hard to cover up so many "disappearances", and we only see the next recruitment 1 year later. It doesnt make sense that all the VIPs are English, except Il-nam, so they probably are from all over the world but English is just a common language for them (which could explain why some of the lines for them are so jarring) At the start of episode 7, you hear one of the VIPs saying "the games in Korea are the best" which suggests that there are other games around the world. Il-nam is named as "the host" because he is the Korean VIP who hosts the Korean games. Therefore the other VIPs probably take turns as the host, holding their version of the squid games in their country through the year
