I've been playing Fender guitars and amps for more than 50 years now and these Squier guitars prove the difference between inexpensive and cheap. My Squier Telecaster is identical to the one shown in this video and mine is as good as any and better than some; how the hell Fender isn't taking a bath on the price point on these guitars I'll never know. Both my Squier Telecaster and my Squier Stratocaster are made in China (and trust me, the Chinese have got into the game and are producing some nice sounding and looking guitars. Both my Telecaster and my Stratocaster have the large dark font that says "Telecaster" and "Stratocaster" like you see on the late '60's and early '70's and these Squier models are as true and rockin' as you could hope for.

This guitar totally surprised me, got one because I was away from my studio in another country. I got a really good one, setup very nicely super fast and easy to play neck, frets a bit scratchy, knobs a bit cheap but where it matters it's a tele through and through for a fraction of the cost. My go to is an AM Pro II Tele but this one is also a unique guitar in it's own way that it can stand toe to toe with the AM Pro II after a great setup. Hell I would even go as far to say if setup professionally, it will go toe to toe blindfolded with an Ultra or a custom shop tele as well if there is a high end amp involved. Great guitars for beginners and even professional players. I'd suggested giving one a try and comparing it with a more expensive one and see what appeals to you. For me the sound is there , it looks like a Tele, it quacks like a Tele, it sings like a Tele....

Hardly a beginner. Walked into the music store expecting to walk out with either a high-end Mexican or low-end US model (you know the ones). Tried a few & "meh + gimmicks"...so cast my eyes further afield. Walked out with a silver-grey metallic Affinity Tele + some Slinkys. In a premium gig bag b/c I really don't want anything to happen to it. Most authentic sound to my ears; great neck; 6-saddle bridge with no raised sides; a sightly thinner body, and - speaking of Jimmy Page - a "top loader" like his old Tele. Might eventually replace the tuners, but no hurry.

I've always been a little apprehensive about the Affinity series. I had an Affinity HSS Strat about 20 years ago and it wasn't very impressive. Now I see vids all over KZitem about them. Seems like an awesome deal with the features and finishes. I'm sure these guys are playing Affinity series guitars that have been extensively set up, fret job, etc. I judge a guitar by how it is, how it plays and feels out of the box. The majority of guitars are fixer uppers off the shelf. Pickups, switches, bridges, tuners, nuts, etc. If this Tele sounds this good I would love to have one.
@hillwellford9637
2 жыл бұрын
Yep, and for that we can thank Schecter and Yamaha/Line 6, and to some extent Ibanez and some others. They hugely upped their game in the $300 to $1000 range over the past several years. Fender had no choice but to follow. And Fender really did--the new Fender mid range stuff (Squier and MIM) is pretty amazing. I have spent the lockdown building guitars and now know what it costs to make something good. Knowing what I now know, I find it kind of amazing that they can make these instruments this good at these price points.

Just got one this week with a Fender Champion 20 amp, it's really really great compared to my expensive Teles and sounds and plays amazing out of the box just like the video. Some components are cheaper yes but where it really matters i.e. the sound, it's a Tele through and through. Fret ends aren't that sharp for me that I'd notice the selector switch felt a bit cheap the knobs maybe also don't rotate as smoothly as my American Teles. I'm playing this guitar and I don't feel at all inclined to pick or miss my really expensive Tele. I don't feel handicapped at all in any way. I got a Squier classic vibe Jazzmaster once, which was just dead wood and I assumed also all Squiers are crap but this Tele has made me eat my hat. After a professional setup it will be even better and you would be hard pressed to tell the difference between this and other expensive Teles blindfolded after a setup.

I bought one back in the day as a take anywhere and not worry about being damaged or stolen guitar. After over 20 something years I still play it everyday. It loves a cranked up tweed champ. Always tuned to open G like Keef’, Muddy, Robert Johnson, et.el. Plays and sounds the same as any Fender tele I’ve played. On another note…mine came with a 4 way selector switch. Don’t really use it as I play every thang on the bridge pup and use the vol and tone controls. I’ve owned and played a lot of guitars since 1976. Strats. Les Pauls. Flying V’s. Love them all but recently I had an epiphany. I really only need 2 guitars. A Les Paul Jr. tuned 1/2 step down in standard and a cheap ass tele in open g. Anyhow… I’d buy another Squier Tele hell yeah!

The comfort cutaway was new to me; I couldn't recall ever seeing one on a Telecaster but it is a welcome (if long overdue) addition to an already amazing guitar. I've heard some people bag on anything Squire as "junk", "crap" and Fender's last gasp as a innovator. I shouldn't wonder to hear the naysayers admit to never even tried one so they might have a chance to at least pretend to know what they're talking about. I bought mine just yesterday (I already had a Fender FE60 soft-sided case) and have kept it pretty busy, and paired with the Fender Champion 100 amp it says anything you want it to and isn't shy about it. Thank you Fender for bringing a guitar truly worth having to a price point realistically achievable to pretty much everybody. P.S. I've my Fender CD60 acoustic guitar. Most metallers would use something with humbuckers. However, many classic metal groups were using single coils in the bridge position, with a Strat or a Tele. And if you want to REALLY cut through a mix, you may want to try playing some palm muted chugs on a Tele. That bridge pickup has stayed pretty much the same since 1950, and for good reason. There’s very little that will articulate the notes like a Tele bridge pickup, and legions of country guitarists will attest to that. So why not metal? Maybe the single coil will bug you with the 60 cycle hum, but this can be mitigated with a swift pedal foot ( by kicking off the distortion pedal quickly) or a noise gate. I prefer humbuckers as the basis for a metal tone, but single coils can add texture (ie: CRUNCH) to rhythms, high-end frequency boost to leads, and definition to a flurry of distorted notes. And do I have to pontificate about the single coil’s performance on those clean channel passages?

I’ve had several affinity series guitars and they’re not bad for the money but my most recent purchase was this exact guitar and the fret work is pretty terrible. Sharp ends from the first fret all the way to the tenth with high spots and the tone knob was so bent that it would get stuck. It wasn’t the pot itself but the knob was drilled off center. Aside from the terrible fret work it isn’t a bad guitar. But you can get a used MIM fender for the same money and if you can find one I’d go that route for sure.
